each round, including the tolerances of components and the

consistency of metallurgical properties. This prevents defects

of each batch ensures the conformity of accuracy, gas pressure

Important Parameters for a High Performance Round

Setting a New Standard: Coordinated Ballistics

Some factors which are of little importance to long range

shooters can provide a tactical advantage to police snipers. The

outstanding benefit is a fully flexible choice shooters have among

five bullet types. For example, at a firing distance of 100 m, the

type of cartridge can be instantly changed without affecting the

point of impact. In an emergency, the firing situation can change

in an instant, giving the shooter little time to respond. With

coordinated ballistics, the shooter can simply focus on the shot.

Coordinated ballistics also provides distinct advantages in training.

Precision firings skills can be honed using SWISS P Ball or SWISS

P Target rounds, and during operations, the shooter can utilise

those same skills when firing Styx Action, AP or Tactical rounds.

The different bullet types are offered in four different calibres.

Based upon the shooter’s experience and expertise, the right

amount of energy can be applied to the target by selecting the

appropriate calibre for the mission.

Action and Final Short Range rounds were specifically designed

to desposit maximum energy in the first few centimeters after

striking a soft target reducing the risk of over penetration, and

possible risk of seriously harming innocent bystanders. Highest

quality standards in materials and manufacturing processes

are required to meet these requirements. Years of experience,

extensive know-how and modern production facilities allow

The Challenge: Glass / Intermitten Barriers

One of the biggest challenges when firing a round through

glass is the unpredictable deflection the bullet may take after

penetration. Conventional full metal jacket bullets with lead cores

break through glass, but are torn apart by the hard and brittle

target medium and can be deflected unpredictably. As a result, the

shooter misses the target and endangers uninvolved bystanders.

.308 Win. SWISS P Tactical

The SWISS P Tactical bullet was especially developed for this

purpose. The flat and sharp edged bullet tip was designed to

properly hit the surface of angled glass and penetrate by staying

in the line of fire. The use of CuZn alloy prevents the projectile

from fragmentation and provides the desired terminal effect.

Relief grooves reduce the barrel wear to a minimum.

Defeating Armour

To be prepared for every scenario, shooters require a round with

high penetration power on hard targets such as reinforced glass,

body and light vehicle armour. The extremely hard tungsten

carbide core powered by a lead core is difficult to stop. Even

on extremely tough targets, the bullet core penetrates without

fragmenting. The bullet jacket provides best accuracy, protects

the barrel and is stripped off upon impact.

Silent and Effective

The element of surprise is a decisive factor in determining the

outcome of a mission. Subsonic rounds allow virtually silent

preliminary measures without attracting attention. Secondary

targets such as alarm systems, guard dogs or getaway vehicles

critical situations.

Most special forces operators use weapons which are designed

for supersonic rounds; however, RUAG Ammotec can provide the

shooter a highly accurate subsonic solution. In addition, special

units may often use weapons with an extra fast twist aiding

to stabilize heavy bullets. For this special application, RUAG

Ammotec offers the 240 gr HPBT-bullet.

.300 Whisper

By definition the calibre .300 Whisper is particularly well suited

for subsonic shooting. The optimised powder chamber provides

constant pressure development, which ensures the highest

first hit probability. To reduce the risk of over penetration, a

bullet was developed based upon a pellet technology, which

breaks apart, even at subsonic speed, releasing its energy as

quickly as possible with no risk of collateral damage.

Accuracy and Reliability in All Conditions

For outstanding results, «good» match ammunition is simply not

enough. Only when used under extreme conditions the difference

to an exceptional sniper round becomes obvious. Strongly varying

operational environments and climatic conditions are influencing

factors which require exceptional performance from the

shooter and the ammunition. The goal is, to consistently achieve

outstanding stability and accuracy, so the shooter can totally

focus on his mission. Especially for extreme long range shots, that

means more flexibility and first hit probability, especially when

it counts. Like all SWISS P cartridges, they are made from high

quality materials and are subject to very stringent quality

controls. They exhibit excellent accuracy, consistent muzzle velocity

SWISS P Ball

This round, which is specifically designed

for military use, has an enclosed tip

and meets all the requirements of

the Hague Convention.

Two primary factors describe the bullet in flight: the range in

which the projectile remains supersonic, and the amount of drift

due to crosswinds. A good CW value ensures that a bullet is less

slowed down by air resistance and will therefore fly for a longer

period of time at supersonic speed.

This considerably extends the effective range. The transition from

supersonic to subsonic flight is considered critical for the accuracy

of the round. The heavier the bullet, the more energy it will carry

to target and is less it is affected by crosswinds.

From a Safe Distance

For extreme long range shots the shooter needs to rely on a

small dispersion and a large bullet mass which is crucial for less

cross wind effects and to transfer enough target energy. Even

at strongly varying conditions he needs a highly temperature

independant powder that ensures a constant muzzle velocity.

Furthermore it is necessary to have a reliable proper weapon

function. In such big calibre minimal barrel wear is another

important issue. Not to forget is a good shelf live. All those

characteristics are combined in these rounds.

The sophisticated shoe-core bullet construction provides excellent

performance and outstanding accuracy over more than 1600 m.

The bullet core made from high strength steel makes more than

60 % of the bullet mass and has excellent penetration power.

The shoe transfers the spin, ensures minimal barrel wear and
