Setting a New Standard: Coordinated Ballistics

Some actors which are o little importance to long range

shooters can provide a tactical advantage to police snipers. The

outstanding benet is a ully fexible choice shooters have among

ve bullet types. For example, at a ring distance o 100 m, the

type o cartridge can be instantly changed without aecting the

point o impact. In an emergency, the ring situation can change

The Challenge: Glass / Intermitten Barriers

One o the biggest challenges when ring a round through

glass is the unpredictable defection the bullet may take ater

penetration. Conventional full metal jacket bullets with lead cores

break through glass, but are torn apart by the hard and brittle

target medium and can be defected unpredictably. As a result, the

shooter misses the target and endangers uninvolved bystanders.

.308 Win. SWISS P Tactical

The SWISS P Tactical bullet was especially developed or this

purpose. The fat and sharp edged bullet tip was designed to

properly hit the surace o angled glass and penetrate by staying

in the line of re. The use of CuZn alloy prevents the projectile

rom ragmentation and provides the desired terminal eect.

Relie grooves reduce the barrel wear to a minimum.

Deeating Armour

To be prepared or every scenario, shooters require a round with

high penetration power on hard targets such as reinorced glass,

body and light vehicle armour. The extremely hard tungsten

units may oten use weapons with an extra ast twist aiding

to stabilize heavy bullets. For this special application, RUAG

Ammotec oers the 240 gr HPBT-bullet.

.300 Whisper

By denition the calibre .300 Whisper is particularly well suited

or subsonic shooting. The optimised powder chamber provides

constant pressure development, which ensures the highest

rst hit probability. To reduce the risk o over penetration, a

bullet was developed based upon a pellet technology, which

breaks apart, even at subsonic speed, releasing its energy as

quickly as possible with no risk o collateral damage.

operational environments and climatic conditions are infuencing

This round, which is specically designedor military use, has an enclosed tip

and meets all the requirements o

the Hague Convention.

Two primary actors describe the bullet in fight: the range in

which the projectile remains supersonic, and the amount of drift

due to crosswinds. A good CW value ensures that a bullet is lessslowed down by air resistance and will thereore fy or a longer

period o time at supersonic speed.

This considerably extends the eective range. The transition rom

supersonic to subsonic fight is considered critical or the accuracy

o the round. The heavier the bullet, the more energy it will carryto target and is less it is aected by crosswinds.

For extreme long range shots the shooter needs to rely on a

small dispersion and a large bullet mass which is crucial or less

cross wind eects and to transer enough target energy. Even

at strongly varying conditions he needs a highly temperature

independant powder that ensures a constant muzzle velocity.

Furthermore it is necessary to have a reliable proper weapon

unction. In such big calibre minimal barrel wear is another

important issue. Not to forget is a good shelf live. All those

characteristics are combined in these rounds.

The sophisticated shoe-core bullet construction provides excellent

perormance and outstanding accuracy over more than 1600 m.

The bullet core made rom high strength steel makes more than
