How to get people into the Berkshires?• Work backwards by making changes to bring
people to the towns• Transportation • Construction/Renovations• Jobs & Entertainment• Advertisement
Note: Bad ideas need to be turned down!- Larger juvenile court on North St. in Pittsfield- Making the Theatre on North St. into a senior center - Bringing in numerous nursing homes and senior living, what about young crowd
Timeline
• Our overall idea is certainly not a quick fix
• Will take 5+ years to possibly become effective and make noticeable changes
Transportation• Put in a new, improved train on existing tracks – Allow people to travel easier & quicker– Bring more people into Berkshires– Easy travel for those without vehicles– Allow people to commute for work or school
• Trolley in Downtown Pittsfield & North Adams– Go to historical places, museums, etc.– Free to ride, donation box
Construction/Renovations• Change, add parking in downtown Pittsfield
(North St.)• Clean up store fronts• Fix up train tracks for new, improved train
system
Entertainment • Outdoor ice skating• Arcades• Hands-on museum• More outdoor activities, free of charge or low
priced– Movies under the stars– Fairs– Rock the block– Fireworks w/ food, drinks, games– Snowman competitions
Jobs• By making infrastructural changes, small businesses
would be more attracted to come to the area• Get colleges to better connect with local jobs• Push the entrepreneurship idea on college students• Advertise the Berkshires in Entrepreneurial
magazines• Hands-on museum & other entertainment would
provide some jobs• Better advertising for existing businesses
Storyboard• This could be used as a radio Ad or
commercial• Show people how great the Berkshires is and
can be• Hope to spread the word about this beautiful
area that does not get enough appreciation
