Driving the Unit

Operating Suggestions

Inexperienced operators may have a tendency to over-steer and lose control. Slow-moving practice maneuvers are recommended to become familiar with these characteristics before attempting normal speed operation. Tug performance is at maximum when the throttle is set at full rpm. This gives maximum power to the drive wheel when needed.

DANGERNever make sudden stops or reverse direction, especially when

operating on a slope. The steering is designed for sensitive response.

Rapid rotation of the steering handle in either direction could result in a

reaction of the tug that can cause serious injury.

DANGERPrior to operating the tug the operator should be thoroughly familiar

with the proper use and operation of the equipment, should read the

manual completely and thoroughly, and should have attempted slow

moving maneuvers to become familiar with the operation of the

equipment before attempting normal speed operation.

WARNINGThe unit’s steering handle is very responsive: Easy does it! For smooth

operation, rotate handle slowly, avoid sudden movement. Skill and ease

of operation come with practice and experience.

WARNINGWhen the cradle assembly is in the Load position, the bottom most

rollers should be no more and no less than 1/2” from the ground.

When storing the machine for a period of time, perform the following steps to prevent damage.

1) Remove all dirt, and trash from machine. Clean machine and touch up all scrapes with Priceless Aviation Products spray paint.

2) Check thoroughly for any worn or damaged parts that need replacing and order them from your dealer.

3) Thoroughly lubricate machine, according to lubrication instructions on page 14.

4) Change oil and filter if not done in last 500 hours.

5) Block tug up so weight is off tires. Do not deflate tires.

6) Protect battery from freezing temperatures. Occasionally recharging battery during storage will extend battery life.

7) Perform separate engine preparation as listed below.

8) Store in a clean, dry place.

Preparing for Engine Storage Perform the following steps when engine is to be unused for a long period of time. STEPS:

1) Run engine for a minimum of 15 minutes.

2) Drain oil from crankcase while engine is still warm.

3) Refill with fresh oil of proper viscosity.

4) Drain fuel tank and run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel. Gasoline evaporates if left in carburetor for long periods, forming gum and varnish deposits in carburetor. These deposits will cause engine flooding and loss of power.

5) Remove and replace fuel filter if not done in previous 100 hours.

6) Clean exterior surface of engine. Spread a light film of oil over any exposed metal surfaces of engine that are subject to corrosion.

7) Clean dirt and chaff from cylinders and fins, blower housing and muffler.

Maintenance Regular maintenance is the best prevention for costly downtime or expensive, premature repair. The following pages contain suggested maintenance information and schedules which the operator should follow. Remain alert for unusual noises. They could be signaling a problem. Visually inspect the machine for any abnormal wear or damage. A good time to detect potential problems is while performing scheduled maintenance service. Correcting the problem as quickly as possible is the best insurance. Keep your machine clean, remove heavy deposits of trash and clippings, they can cause engine overheating as well as excessive belt wear. Clear away heavy build-up of grease, oil and dirt, especially in the area of reservoir oil and engine combustion air; minute dust particle are abrasive to close-tolerance engine and hydraulic assemblies. Some repairs require the assistance of a trained service mechanic and should not be attempted by unskilled personnel. Consult Priceless Aviation Products when assistance is needed

IMPORTANTRead and observe safety warnings in front of manual.

WARNINGUnless specifically required, DO NOT have engine running when

servicing or making adjustments to tug. Repairs or maintenance

requiring engine power should be performed by trained personnel only.

WARNINGTo prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, be sure proper ventilation is

available when engine must be operated in an enclosed area.

Electrical System The electrical system is a 12 volt, negative ground. Recommended battery size is 650 or better cranking AMP rating. A maintenance-free battery is recommended. Otherwise, follow battery manufacturer’s maintenance, safety, storing and charging specifications.

Electrolyte may overflow and damage paint, wiring or structure. When cleaning the battery, use soap and water. Be careful not to get soap and water into the battery. Use soda mixed in water to clean corrosion off the terminals. Common circuit failures are usually caused by shorting, corroded or dirty terminals, loose connections, defective wire insulation or broken wires. Switches, solenoids and ignition components may also fail, causing a shorted or open circuit. Before attempting any failure diagnosis of the electrical system, use a test light or voltmeter to check the battery voltage. If the battery voltage is satisfactory, check the cleanliness and tightness of the terminals and ground connections. A general understanding of electrical servicing and use of basic test equipment is necessary for troubleshooting and repair.

Fuel System

Use regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.

WARNINGAlways wear eye protection when checking the battery, acid can cause

serious injury to skin and eyes. If contact occurs, flush area with clean

water and call physician immediately. Acid will also damage clothing.

WARNINGHydrogen gas forms inside the battery. This gas is both toxic and

flammable and may cause an explosion if exposed to flame. Always

remove the negative ground first and replace it last.

WARNINGObserve usual fuel handling precautions; do not smoke while refueling,

do not fill tank with engine running or while engine is hot; allow engine

to cool before storing machine inside a building, keep fuel away from

open flame or spark and store machine away from open flame or spark if

there is fuel in the tank. Read and observe safety precautions at front of

this manual.

Engine Oil Filter Check engine oil daily and after every 4 hours of operation. Unit must be setting level when checking oil. Refer to engine manual and maintenance schedule for oil recommendation and capacities. Change the engine oil and filter after the first 5 hours of operation, per the engine manufacturer’s recommendations after that. If tug is being operated in extremely dirty conditions, then it is recommended oil being changed more frequently.

Engine Air Filter Perform engine air filter maintenance per the respective engine owner’s manual.

General Engine Maintenance Detailed instructions and recommendations for break-in and regular maintenance are specified in the respective Engine Owner’s manual. Please refer to this manual for engine servicing, lubricating oil levels with quality and viscosity recommendations, bolt torques, etc. The engine warranty is backed by engine manufacturer. Special attention should be paid to applicable data which will not be duplicated here.

Lubrication Instructions Apply quality chain oil or equivalent to drive chain after every 100 hours of operation.

15

Roller Chain Maintenance The correct amount of chain tension is essential for proper operation of the chain. When the chain is too tight, working parts such as chain, sprocket wheel, shaft, bearing, etc. carry a much heavier load. On the other hand, too much slack is also harmful and causes the chain to climb the sprocket teeth. The rule of thumb for tension is between one-quarter and one half of an inch of deflection when firmly depressed with your thumb at midspan . The chain has a tendency to stretch more at the beginning of operation or when it is new. After such initial elongation, the chain stretches slightly, but constantly, by normal wear. To maintain proper chain tension, adjustments, if necessary, should be made at regular intervals. Neglect of careful inspection increases the chance of an accident. If excessive wear is noticed replace the chain.

Frequency of Adjustments

1st week - once a day 2nd - 4th week - twice a week Thereafter - twice a month Note: The above frequency schedule is based on 8 hours operation a day. When working hours are increased, the frequency of adjustment should be increased accordingly. To tighten roller chain loosen (4) bolts "B", and adjust (2) bolts "A" as required. Remember to tighten bolts when complete.

V-Belt Maintenance

Most belts stretch after the first few hours of operation. It's best to check the tension frequently at first. Inspect the tension after eight hours of operation, then check it again at 150 hours, Thereafter twice a month. The rule of thumb for tension is between one-quarter and one half of an inch of deflection when firmly depressed with your thumb at midspan. Too much tension will impose excessive load; too little causes slippage and excessive belt wear. Belts that squeal during acceleration or when operating at full load will usually have slippage. Never add a lubricant to the belts. Squealing merely indicates that the belts need to be tightened. Preventive maintenance tips include regular inspection for nicks, cuts, abrasion, and glazing. If you find problems replace the belt. To tighten the v-belt, loosen (4) bolts "C", and adjust (2) bolts "A" as required. Remember to tighten bolts when complete.
