*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) Leader: Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ. Congregation: In God, we have been graced with wisdom and knowledge; we are not lacking in any spiritual gift.
Leader: We are continually encouraged and strengthened, called as Christ’s partners in service and mission around the world.

CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) O Holy One, who wondrously calls us into being, we admit before you and to those around us, that at times it all seems too hard. We see little fruit for our labors, receive no thanks for our honest endeavors, or are made to feel embarrassed when we express our faith and gifts. Forgive us, not just for a lack of belief in you, but for a lack of belief in who we are. Forgive us for negative conclusions and false humilities that mute your call for creative love and justice. Self-giving God, restore in us the undying courage of Christ and the deep presence of the Holy Spirit. (Silence for personal confession) ASSURANCE OF PARDON RESPONSIVE SONG NO. 344 “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus” (vs. 1, 3)
I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus -- no
turning back, no turning back. Though none go with me, I still will follow, though none go with me,
I still will follow, though none go with me, I still will follow -- no turning back, no turning back.

I believe in Jesus of Nazareth as God’s crucial initiative, that when he calls us to follow, Christ also gives us the power to become, both in creed and deed, the children of the living God. I believe in the Spirit by whom Jesus still comes to us, calling us to follow him into an obedience which is true liberty and to a humble service which is the fruit of holy friendship. I believe in the church as the fellowship of Christ’s people, called to respect and support one another through joys and tribulations as we travel the road towards the “promised land” of God’s future. Because Christ has called me in this I truly believe. Amen. — written by Bruce Prewer

WEDNESDAY MORNING WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
AMP - A Morning’s Peace & W3 – Women in the Word on Wednesdays
Twelve More Women of the Bible Study Guide: Life-Changing Stories for Women Today by Sherry Harney September 13 – November 15, 2017 (10 weeks) Cost: $15 (Materials & Study Guide)
This Bible study is for women of all ages and is structured to meet once a week for 10 consecutive sessions. We will look at the spiritual lessons learned from ten women in the Bible and what they mean for us today. You will look at these women’s successes and failures, see how they drew near to God in the midst of trials, and learn how they overcame rejection and disappointment. Their stories will inspire us to persevere through difficult times and find joy in the hope that Jesus has provided. This 10-week Study Guide provides reflective questions to be answered between sessions. A DVD lesson is shown in class each week with small group discussion to follow. Class meets from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. with free childcare. Contact: Rev. Emily Campbell ([email protected]) or Sue Kage ([email protected]) or register online at: http://fpcp.net/grow/adults/wednesday-morning-womens-bible-study Additionally, you may sign up on the Life Long Learning bulletin board by the elevator. Please register by September 10th.
Early Word Bible Study Begins the study of the Reformation
On Wednesday, August 2, 2017
Come join Early Word at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays for an 11- week study of the reformaon. What
does “Protestant” mean? What are the differences in worship among Protestants? Who were the
Huguenots? What does the Reformaon mean for us today?
In an easy-to-use queson-and-answer style, Reformaon Quesons, Reformaon Answers highlights the key facts, people,
and theologies of the Protestant Reformaon, as well as major legacies of the historical movement. As we celebrate the
500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformaon, this study will help us understand a crical moment in Chrisan
history that sll deeply affects who the church is today.
Quesons: contact Sue Kage at [email protected].
Continuing the Word Bible Study Starting Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 11:30am - 1:00pm. Hearth Room
Parables from The Backside by J. Ellsworth Kalas, ($11, available on the first day of class) This 12 week class focuses on some of Jesus' well-known parables but approaches them from a different point of view. We all know the parable of the Good Samaritan, who very clearly was a good human being, but did you ever wonder what the Jewish "victim" was thinking about this Samaritan fellow? Or, what about the Father in the story about the prodigal son? What was going through his mind? This is a "retelling of the stories through the eyes of minor characters." This Study is open to all ages, men and women. For more information, contact Joann Oldham, 734-455-4639 (daytime) or [email protected]

7:15 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesdays from September 19 to November 7, 2017 The subtle of this new book by John MacArthur, published in 2017, is “Embracing The Good News at the Heart of
Paul’s Teachings.” Unlike the rest of the apostles, Paul never spent me with Jesus during Christ’s earthly ministry.
However, he defended the authority and purity of the gospel: “I am appointed for the defense of the gospel of God.”
MacArthur writes, “Gospel truth permeates everything Paul ever wrote.”
Join in reading and discussing topics, including Things of First Importance, How Can a Person be
Right with God, Alive Together with Christ, and The Lessons of Grace.

Life Long Learning Classes Program Overview God intends for all believers to embark on a faith journey that lasts throughout their lifetimes. In order to grow in faith, all Christians are called to model their lives after the example of Jesus Christ. Only through worship, service, prayer, fellowship, and study in a community of faith can the people of God live out their calling. In our busy, prosperous community, we all have many demands on our time and energy. In the face of these demands, we each strive to look within our hearts, through reflection and prayer, and honestly determine how we are growing in faith. We are called to ask, “Where in the list of priorities is my relationship with God?”
Ministry Focus In order to serve God, the congregation, and our world partners, the Christian Nurture Committee of our Church has worked to develop diverse, creative and attractive programs. These programs emphasize the study of Scripture, fellowship and personal faith development. The mission of FPCP of nurture and education is to:
• Offer every member and visitor opportunities to continue in their faith journey; • Actively reach out to every member and visitor and seek to engage them in ministry according to their
God-given gifts and talents; • Dialogue with ministers, congregation, community, and our world partners to create new programs,
classes, and groups to engage in a broad-based effort to bring the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the lives of all people.
If you do not find what you are looking for, please let us know. What can the church do to involve you in active participation in Bible study and small group ministry? Is there a time of day or day of the week that would work better for you? Is there a topic that interests you that we are not offering? We plan to continue offering childcare for as many mornings and evenings programs as possible. Please let us know if lack of childcare prevents you from participating. We also understand that driving at night is a concern for some of you. Please keep in mind that worship is where we put into practice what we learn in Bible study and small groups. Worship is the life of the church and essentially the only place where the entire body comes together. Please do not substitute education or nurture clas-ses for worship. We all really need both.

Thank you! The VBS mission collection for Colina de Luz was a huge success! 235 Bibles were purchased,
providing a Spanish Bible in an easy to understand translation to each child living at Colina de Luz Christian Home for Chil-dren in Mexico. These Bibles will help each child to know Christ and pursue a personal relationship with Him. The gift of the Word is invaluable!

Calling All Gardeners (and shoppers!) Once again we have the opportunity to help families within our community by donating fresh fruits and vegetables to Northville Civic Concern. If your garden has an abundant crop, please consider sharing. Whatever you bring in and leave on the produce stand in the Narthex will be delivered to Civic Concern. Each week they donate groceries and produce to local families that may otherwise go without. If you do not have a garden but would like to contribute, store bought produce is also accepted. The Local Mission committee is so thankful for your generosity. We will be collecting produce through the end of September.

IE- USA is seeking host homes for the upcoming school year. Why not branch out and try something new and different this year? Hosting an exchange student is simpler than you might think! The students come equipped with their own insurance, their own spending money - all you need to supply is “room and board” plus the emotional support of a family. The rewarding relationship you receive in return is priceless!
Would you consider helping these students by welcoming one of them into your home? To get more information with no obligation, please call Heather at (313)300-9059 or email at [email protected]

Do you knowDo you knowDo you knowDo you know…when the Jews ended their temple sacrifices? It was 70 AD. That was when the Ro-
mans destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem so it was no longer possible to offer sacrifices. When the temple was de-
stroyed, all records of Jewish genealogy were destroyed too. Do you think this was God’s plan to break the old
covenant with Israel and establish His new covenant for all mankind?
