ENVIRONMENT/VISION 2020• . 3M is rolling out SAP® Business Suite 7 software as it phases out some

of its legacy applications at sites around the world.

• Along with its growing portfolio of acquired companies offering innovative products from healthcare, highway safety, office products, abrasives and adhesives, 3M has inherited these companies’ business software installations, which currently run distinct processes from the shop floor to the supply chain, to sales and reporting. (M&A)

• The company is now unifying its IT landscape on SAP Business Suite to orchestrate business processes in an integrated E-E operating model and gain clearer insight across its global operations.

“Providing innovative solutions to our customers around the world is our top priority, so we undertook a thorough evaluation to determine the best-suited business software that could further improve customer intimacy, service delivery and power each of our divisions and regions of operations with industry best practices.”

“SAP business solutions will play an important enabling role in unifying core processes globally and supporting our ongoing strategy of meeting customer needs wherever they are.”

“We expect the SAP deployment to provide significant value to 3M in the coming years.”

Ernie Park, VP/CIO, 3M

CLOUD COMPUTINGDEFINITION:“Cloud Computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable E COMPUTING RESOURCES (I.e

Networks, Servers, Storge, Applications & Services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction” Source: NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology)

TYPES OF CLOUDS:•PRIVATE – EARLY IN THE GAME – MANY PROJECTS UNDERWAY•PUBLIC – CAUTIOUS CONCERN BY TRADITIONAL CORPORATIONS/ONLINE GROWTH•HYBRID – •MAJOR PLAYERS ARE EXPLORING CLOUD COMPUTING•POTENTIAL: TAAS/IAAS/SAAS/ETC.•SOCIALNET MEDIA AND DIGITALIZATION OF SCM INCREASINGLY AUTOMATED•MULTI-TENANT OR SINGLE – “SMART COMPONENTS” (I.E. MAKING OPTIONS MORE FLEXIBLE AND RESPONSIVE QUICKLY)•MULTI-PARTNERS/COMPONENTS ARE MODULAR – ALWAYS CURRENT

•SaaS Software-as-a-ervice, which represent the largest share of the cloud services market, at 69% of all services in 2011•IaaS Infrastructure-as-a-Service “as businesses become more comfortable with the cloud. Awareness of data protection legislation, terms and conditions of SLA (Service Level Agreements) and a better understanding of the nature of cloud services is shaping the cloud ecosystem and paving the way for market consolidation.”•PaaS Platform-as-a-Service

PROJECTIONS :Visiongain just issued a report that projects that the cloud services market will be worth some $82.9 billion by the year 2016. That’s a big number. Plus, the consultancy says that more than 30% of enterprises worldwide are already deploying at least one cloud solution, which suggests that adoption is already widespread. There are a number of variables shaping the market:

The problem in trying to size such a market is deciding where traditional software ends and cloud begins. Or, where traditional outsourcing ends and cloud begins. It’s likely that cloud will simply be another inter and intra-enterprise service delivery channel in the years to come, especially from third-party software vendors. More telling numbers will be the savings — or additional costs — enterprises will be incurring by moving to on-demand services offered by someone else. Private cloud complicates any measurements even further — how many enterprise back office applications will be virtualized and delivered as services?

ISSUES/CONCERNS

• SECURITY – Data breaches at Sony & RSA• DOWNTIME – Liability and deferred Revenue

(Whether company or others reliant on each other in the cloud)

• TOTAL COST OF ERP OWNERSHIP ON-SITE

SAP’s MOBILE SOLUTION HOW SHOULD IT BE INCORPORATED INTO A Test Pilot

PROGRAM PLAN FOR THIS SPECIFIC MARKET FOCUSED EFFORT?

SYBASE – Afaria - SUP-Can you buy an SAP Mobile Application that works with any SAP implementation without major config/customzn?-Sybase Afaria has been rebadged as the SAP Mobility Platform and is the way to go, NetWeaver Mobile has been rapidly forgotten? Is SUP a part of this?-SAP bought Syclo and again there is uncertainty about how mobile development should be done.-Client wants to invest in something with a long life. Something they can use for at least the entire mobile project rollout when this one is a proven success (target ROI w/n 12 months)--How do we get the security (transport, and device, authentication, policy) right first? --Applications will be dealt with separately – right?--Which parts does Afaria do and which parts SUP? Doesn’t Afaria do deployment, certificate deployment (for VPN comms and authentication) and locking down of the device?-- What are the right skills for the client to source for long term support?--Need to get the UI right so the technology solutions don’t matter so much to ensure the end user experience doesn’t change and they end up writing throw away solutions. Your advice?--SAP strategy seems to be to push out so many solutions and buy so many providers that no matter how you turn it the money goes to SAP. What about the client? When will we see a convergence of the platforms so everything moves into a single platform – i.e. HANA? Or, do we not converge the platforms and rework the existing apps so they can all run on the same platform? What about custom apps? Clients want a single process and they do not want to pay for A and B – What’s the bundle?
