What's Cooking? What’s Cooking is a lifestyle program provided by Regency Senior Communities which allows our residents to actively prepare a recipe, start to finish, with furnished recipes and ingredients. More complex recipes require demonstration, but most often residents are encouraged to be part of a hands-on team effort. Group participants enjoy samples of the finished product together.

What’s the next best thing to being on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras? Enjoying jazz from the Bourbon Street Stompers in the comfort of Regency Senior Communities! Organized 28 years ago by trumpeter Dave Welknak, Wisconsin’s premier Dixieland jazz band instrumentation is the traditional sextet: trumpet, trombone, clarinet, banjo, tuba, and washboard. The musicians do their own vocals and perform a mix of jazz, ragtime, and novelty tunes. The band regularly plays at parades, fairs, summer park concerts, restaurants, and private parties throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Welcome, New Residents!

All About New Berlin

Meet Fran, Front Desk Receptionist

Fran Marrari has been with Regency-New Berlin

for 14 years. Having worked in a bank, she

knew she could contribute strong customer

skills, a listening ear, and a friendly, approachable

personality.

What surprises her most is the willingness

of residents to share their life stories:

“They really open up to me. What’s not

a surprise is how highly they speak of and

how proud they are of their children, grandchildren,

and great-grandchildren.”

According to Fran, people may not be aware of all that

Regency offers. “We offer volunteer services, along

with trips, religious services, entertainment, community

events, and dining out. I wish others knew all the services

we offer here.”

In her spare time, Fran likes to go on walks with her husband,

and hang out (and laugh with) her sisters. She and her

husband, now empty nesters, are proud of their daughter

who is attending UW-Madison.

“It’s absolutely fascinating to hear about all the residents have done and accomplished. I ’m in awe.”

FEBRUARYEVENTS CONT.

ProHealth Care is always working to deliver medical care in new and better ways. As the advanced practice nurse for all Regency on-site medical clinics, Mary Muth has been testing a new program—shared medical appointments.

A shared medical appointment brings together a small number of individuals who share a chronic medical condition. Examples include high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, or diabetes.

The visits include a brief private exam and interactive group education. Individuals receive information and resources to help them better manage their chronic conditions. Plus, they have a unique opportunity to learn from the experiences other group members share and the questions they ask.

Individuals who participate in shared medical appointments agree to:

• attend periodic group appointments

• get to know and interact with a small group of patients who share their medical condition

• gain information from a variety of medical experts who lead group educational sessions

A shared medical appointment is billed like a regular office visit. There is no additional charge for the interactive portion of the visit.

The participants who helped Mary test the appointment format found the experience to be valuable. As a result, all three of ProHealth’s on-site medical clinics will be offering shared medical appointments in the future.

Shared appointments will be optional and are not required. If the format is not of interest to qualifying residents, Mary will continue to offer individual appointments, too.

Call to learn more about shared medical appointments.

Join world traveler and adventurist Nate Hunt on a global adventure—see and experience the world through his eyes as he presents unique facts and entertaining personal experiences about places few have journeyed to. This program focuses on Amritsar, India—home to the Harmandir Sahib, commonly known as the Golden Temple, and the spiritual and cultural center for the Sikh religion. The temple is a major pilgrimage destination for Sikhs from all over the world, as well as an increasingly popular tourist attraction.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Nate and his wife Jessica traded their comfortable lives and successful careers for a two-year trip around the world with nothing more than what they could carry on their backs. Take a step back in time to the Renaissance Period in Europe—when armored knights on horseback were disappearing into obscurity. You’ll meet Ritter Hildebold von Schwanstein, a fictional character based on the actual order of the Swan Knights of Schwangau, a small town in Bavaria.

Ritter provides entertaining details about the Schwanstein Castle, the history of the Swan Knight, a knight’s everyday life,

and why knights and their ideals were featured prominently in medieval and Renaissance literature. Historian David Wiedenkeller, wearing plate armor and speaking with a German accent, portrays and offers a first-person

account of Ritter. The development of Wiedenkeller’s latest character was five years in the making and is a new addition to his repertoire of 22 characters.

Storyteller, elf, and gypsy, Kristia Wildflower discusses the roots of green medicine, brews, teas, and herbs in this educational and entertaining presentation on aphrodisiacs, stimulants, and intoxicants. Wildflower shares the mythical, medicinal, and magical qualities of assorted plants and herbs including: avocados, hops, hemp, yerba, yucca, kava- kava, valerian, Angelica, and more. Can they really improve your vitality, increase your wealth, calm you, enhance your sleep, promote happiness, and heal you? Find out from Kristia, otherwise known as Kris Menzel.

In 1983, Kris left Milwaukee to live in rural Sheboygan County where she became immersed in a wondrous study of wildflowers. Kris combined three decades of working in the theater with a love of people, plants, history, horticulture, and humor to create WildFlower Productions. Her many costumed characters and programs bring a unique storytelling experience to all. Most of the characters she plays—usually flowers or plants—are backed by hours of research, character development, and program content.
