Resilience Booster Shot for HR Professionals How to stay focused, energized and positive when managing a staff reduction or other challenge Companies often invest in training to rebuild optimism, confidence and engagement for survivors of a downsizing, and these interventions are always delivered after the displacement event is over. Virtually no resources are devoted to bolstering the resilience of HR professionals tasked with the hands-on aspects of a downsizing before and during the event. Human Resources professionals tend to be highly empathetic and caring towards others, and in their drive to care for their colleagues, they often fail to take care of themselves first. This can (and often does) drain their resilience and reduce their effectiveness. In this 45-minute webinar, participants will learn concrete skills to help them feel better and do better in this difficult circumstance. By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to: Better understand how their thoughts drive their feelings and actions Recognize that their thoughts are often not accurate, especially in the midst of adversity Identify the one emotion that most interferes with their productivity Learn the specific kind of thinking that leads to that disruptive emotion, and how to reduce the emotion by engaging their thinking Identify at least one 'Iceberg Belief' that gets in their way Learn a skill to melt or steer around the 'Iceberg,' leading to greater resilience and better results Relate this learning to a specific workplace challenge Dean Becker is an accomplished executive and consultant with more than 25 years of experience selling and delivering executive search, training and executive coaching services to organizations and individuals worldwide. What resilience is NOT

Page 14: Resilience Booster Shot for HR Professionals

Resilience is the intelligent

deployment of limited resources

At times we attempt to solve the

unsolvable

At times we give up prematurely

Page 15: Resilience Booster Shot for HR Professionals

We need serenity to accept those things we cannot change

We need courage to change the things we can

And we need the wisdom to know the difference

genetics, more than intelligence, more than

any other factor, it is Thinking Style that

determines who is resilient and who is

not.”

Emotion Radar Practice

• Event You’ve been working much longer hours for the past several

weeks, doing project work, writing reports, serving multiple

masters, responding to shifting priorities, and trying to balance

work and home. You get home at the end of a particularly

tough week and your spouse/partner complains that you’re a

workaholic and need to start making your relationship more of

a priority.

• Thoughts – What would go through your mind like tickertape in that instant – not 5 minutes or even 5 seconds later?

• Impact – What would you feel and do in that moment?
