The company scooped one of the topawards at last month’s 2010 MasterBuilders-Bankwest Excellence inConstruction Awards at the PerthConvention and Exhibition Centre.
Pindan picked up Best Multi UnitDevelopment for South Beach’s Islandsproject, as well as double honours for RioTinto’s new offices at Perth DomesticAirport. It was listed as a finalist in BestCommercial Building and Best Building Fit-out categories.

Upbeat message fromdevelopment institute
THE Urban DevelopmentInstitute of Australia (UDIA) saidthat despite lagging consumerconfidence, WA’s propertymarket had shown signs of arecovery over the past sixmonths.
UDIA CEO Debra Goostreysaid there was a 6 per centincrease in land sales during theMarch 2010 quarter, a marginalrecovery from the 18 per centdrop in December.
“This was our first real sign thatthe market was normalising after arough year in 2008 early 2009,”Ms Goostrey said.
“ The First Home OwnerGrant, which was cut inDecember 2009, had pushed upsales numbers at the bottom endof the market and the March statsshowed that the middle marketwas starting to move as a result.
“Prices were up slightly in theMarch quarter, reflecting theincrease in buyers from themiddle income sector.”
Ms Goostrey said that despiterecently released housingstatistics representing a decreasein construction activity, UDIA wasconfident that increasing land saleswould flow through to helpimprove those housingconstruction levels.
“A rate rise this month couldhave spelt disaster for the marketrecovery,” Ms Goostrey said.
“We are now expecting thatconsumers will becomeincreasingly interested in buyingland in the coming months asconfidence creeps up and rateshopefully remain steady. This willhave a positive effect on housingconstruction approvals and startslater in the year.”■
