Rents rise as vacancies fall in PerthRENTS in metropolitan Perth haveincreased for the first time in 12 months.

The Real Estate Institute of WesternAustralia last week revealed the medianrent in the three months to January wasup $10 to $380 a week.

REIWA president Alan Bourke saidthe March quarter was traditionally atime when vacancy rates tightened.

Rents increased during this time dueto seasonal factors, such as pressurefrom university students and families

preparing for the new year. “We sawmedian rents go from $360 to $370 thistime last year but we didn’t experienceany further rises or falls through all of2010,” Mr Bourke said.

The vacancy rate for available rentalproperties in Perth stands at 3.4 per centin the three months to January, the sameas the revised figure for the Decemberquarter. This is well under the vacancyrate of 4.1 per cent in the March quarterlast year. ■
