Research Teaching Linkages: Enhancing Graduate Attributes
• Part of a larger University wide Enhancement Theme programme
• Enhancement themes part of QEF (Quality Enhancement Framework)
• QEF is co-ordinated by quality working group which includes members from QAA Scotland (Quality Assurance Agency), SFC (Scottish Funding Council) and others
• Looking at link between research teaching with aim to enhance graduate attributes and improve student experience– Institutional level– Discipline level

Discipline project
Focus on Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine
Aim:
To identify, share and build on good and innovative practice in utilising research-teaching linkages to enhance the achievement of graduate attributes
![Page 5: Research Teaching Linkages: Enhancing graduate attributes in Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine Symposium 28 th January 2008 Bute Medical School.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062802/56649e905503460f94b94dcd/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Approach taken
• Structured interviews– Identify and define ‘high level’ graduate attributes– Identify approaches in making best use of research
teaching linkages to enhance these attributes– Identify case study examples
• Symposium• Post symposium Blog• http://medblogs.st-andrews.ac.uk/ResearchTeachingLinkages/default.aspx
Report available from the QAA website

Symposium
Aim• To discuss and share good practice
Themes• Understanding high level graduate attributes
and how best to support/promote the achievement of such attributes
• Sharing of approaches to making best use of research/professional practices which enhance the achievement of such attributes
• Consideration of how best to develop a learning environment that envelops research activities as part of the learning experience
