• As our genre is a period drama, we felt it was important to do the necessary research in order to make the costumes look authentic.

• We went to the V&A in London to do research about the fashion from the 1800’s.

• We gathered ideas for the costumes for the female characters from dresses such as these;

This pink empire line dress is the sort of outfit we would like for the character of Elizabeth, as it is a rich colour and is made out of a expensive luxurious fabric that an upper class character like Elizabeth would be able to afford.

• We gained inspiration for Marianne’s outfits from these dresses;

This cream and gold dress looks too rich for someone of the character of Marianne, however the use of the cream and the ruffles are the details we would like in her outfit.

This cream lace dress is the type of outfit we would like the character of Marianne to wear as it is quite simplistic yet elegant too.

We drew inspiration for the male costumes from the exhibition, the double breasted coat with tails was a typical male dress of the time, especially for an upper class character such as Lord Ashown.

We also took note of the use of the cravats and waistcoats, and will be sure to use these details in our piece.
