    CHANCELLORS MESSAGE

Hindustan University is one o the premier institutions in thecountry ocused on academic excellence. Our laurels proveour commitment and dedication to the nation as well as tothe global scientic community. 155 Research Scholars haveregistered within a short span o our years in our institution.

The Centres o Excellence across the Departments haveestablished the state-o-the-art acilities with rich content andoers wide opportunities to the research scholars. The otherdepartments are also enhancing their research capabilities. Many aculty have produced research articles and presented

technical papers across global orums earning themselves andthe University immense credibility.

The aculty have to realize our commitment to the globalsociety. In a recent speech, the Indian President Shri. PranabMukherjee quoted, Not a single Indian University gured onthe list o 00 top rated Universities globally, including thepremier IITs and has emphasized that aculty members needto develop scientic temperament and provide appropriatelearning experience to the students. There must be morecollaborations, exchanges and cross-pollinations with the bestminds in India and abroad. India has 60 central laboratories,540 Universities, 0000 colleges and 3 millions scientists. Thethird largest in the world but is unable to convert its giganticmass o mediocrity into excellence. Good Universities yearn

or unds, while bad ones ritter away resources.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the publicinvestment in R&D has been growing at more than 0%. Whathe didnt say is that this investment is just 0.91% o our GDP,while that o Chinas is 1.46%. He also said that the scienticpublications by Indian scientists in India have grown at 1%against the global average o 4%. What he didnt say is thatIndia published only .5 Lakhs scientic papers in 010compared to 9.7 Lakhs by China.

Dr. C. N. R. Rao, Honorary President o Jawaharlal NehruCentre or Advanced Scientic Research said Real progressin science occurs through research by small science in labsin Universities. We should not be obsessed with big agenciessuch as atomic energy and space.

This brochure gives the necessary inormation about thevarious research programmes and admission details which willbe valuable to prospective scholars.

I welcome all the Research Scholars to our vibrant anddynamic University.

    VICE-CHANCELLORS MESSAGE

    Dear Researchers,

Hindustan Universitys greatest hope and challenge is lookingorward to the academic excellence: RESEARCH. Research, the orerunner to success, is sheer dedication to a cause andthe willingness to sacrice short-term pleasures or long-term gain. Opportunities and challenges in research alwaysgravitate towards those researchers who believe in hard work.

A comprehensive reading programme is the rst importantstep towards meaningul research. Reading opens the door toa magnicent reality and a whole new world o possibilities. However, only you can expose yoursel to this opportunity;only you can read, assimilate, contemplate and take romthe accumulated data what is useul to you, to get ahead. AsAldous Huxley opines, Every man who knows how to read, hasin his power to magniy himsel, to multiply the ways in whichhe exists, to make his lie ull, signicant, and interesting.

Thereore, earnest researchers, "I welcome you to read on,and start discovering what you are capable o achieving. Thereading-learning-research experience you indulge in, will be allthe more signicant i you are able to discover and determineor yoursel what makes you the person you are today, and the

person you want to be tomorrow. You can hope to participatein your personal growth, the growth o your institution, thenation and the human race only to the extent you discover andmaterialize your ull potential as a researcher."

The knowledge you gain rom research will set you apart romyour peers, orce you to consider new ideas and concepts, reassess old belies, and broaden your horizons.

Welcome to the World o Research!

Welcome to the window to the World!!

    TRAINING PROGRAMMES

    GENERIC TRAINING FOR RESEARCHERS

Generic (or transerable) skills are those which the researchers should develop over the course o their study (i.e. careermanagement, problem solving, teamwork and leadership) in addition to their research skills which will enhance their

employability whether in or out o academia. A research degree is the beginning o a career with a research viewpointand with new thinking and analytical skills. Future opportunities will require people not only with high level researchskills but also who are good managers, decision makers, thinkers and communicators.

The training programme is a series o events designed to support all researchers by introducing a variety o researchskills and techniques that will help them to progress successully through the research degree studies and also equipthe researcher or a uture career. The various sessions are designed so as to bring together researchers rom varieddisciplines, to oster discussion and to develop research and transerable skills associated with the processes oeective career management.

The training program aims to enhance the eectiveness o the researchers by building their understanding, skillsand condence in communication, planning and time management, leadership and assertiveness. A good literaturereview expands upon the reasons behind selecting a particular research question. The program includes inormationon strategies or carrying out literature review, structure and positioning o the literature review chapter and the skillsinvolved in the whole process. Methods o mitigating the risks are explored within the policy and legal ramework

governing the health and saety aspects o research conducted at the university. Scientic writing standards requiredor the researchers are dealt with. The intricacies o setting out and deending a thesis are discussed and guidancegiven on titles, structure and style. Focus is also on the understanding o the viva examination, the role o supervisor andthe condence in acing viva-voce. It is important that researchers develop an understanding o how to communicateresearch to various types o media. An open orum style session in which senior colleagues rom dierent disciplinesdiscuss on publishing in journals, conerences and dealing with the media.

At the end o the generic training component o the programme the researchers would be able to demonstrate original, independent and critical thinking, apply eective project management through the setting o research goals, setrealistic and achievable career goals, identiy and develop ways to improve employability and appreciate the need orand show commitment to continued proessional development .

    SEMINAR TOPICS:

How to be an Eective Researcher Role o Literature Review Research Methodology Health and saety in research Importance o Planning Research oriented writing skills Statistical Analysis or Researchers Ethics in Research ENDNOTE and Scientometric Analysis Editing a Ph.D Thesis using LaTEX To prepare a Research Degree Submission Viva and process o Research Degree Examination Publicising your research
