THE REPORT
Through this interview with the headmistress Pn. Fatimah, I know a lot about her. For
most people, in their first impression they would think that she is very fierce by looking at her
face. However, when they try to communicate with her or be one of her colleague, their first
impression had changed as she is actually very friendly. She is very easy to get along with the
others. We, the teachers are happy to work along with her. We can share our opinions easily
and discuss anything especially about work and the students with ease. She also said that she
was very active in spots when she was young. She had told a lot of experiences that she have
since she works as an ordinary teacher until she had became as a headmistress.
On 3rd January 1978, she started to work as a teacher in SRJK(C) Kg Bali, Tronoh.
This is the first place where she worked in as a teacher after graduating in Maktab Perguruan
Melayu Melaka in 1977, but it was not that long as she only worked there for a month before
she had transferred to SRJK(C) Sam Chai, Ipoh started on 1st February 1978. There, she had
been working for four years and nine month and teaching the Malay language subject and art
education. Then, she applied to transfer teaching in her own hometown and the application
had approved. She worked in SR Tronoh for five years.
Later on, after she had married with her husband, she was following him and
transferred to SK Raja Dihilir Ikram Pasir Putih in Ipoh for one year only. Then, in 1989, she
had transferred again to Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Pari, Menglembu, also in Ipoh before
needed to transfer again to Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato Ahmad Said Tambahan, Ipoh starting
from 1st February 1993. Next, she was promoted to be the senior assistant of student affairs in
Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Siputeh in Selama, Perak and she had been working there from
August 1992 to 2005. At that time, she lived at the quarters that are specially provided for the
teachers who taught there. After serving for 14 years there in Selama, she requested for
transferring back to Perak Tengah, Perak.
Thereafter, she had transferred to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Kaya as a senior assistant
of co-curricular for one year only. Then, again, she had transferred to Sekolah Kebangsaan
Sri Iskandar as the senior assistant from 2006 to October 2008. After that, she transferredagain to Sekolah Kebangsaan Felcra Nasaruddin as the senior assistant. However, her
-

services there was not that long. She only worked there in Sekolah Kebangsaan Felcra
Nasaruddin for two month only before had offered to be as a headmistress. The first school
that she worked as a headmistress was in Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Kepayang. She worked
there starting in December 2008 till now. She is not only necessary to lead and take care of
all the teachers but also the students. Although it was quite difficult to assume this
responsibility, nevertheless, she bears with it for the sake of the pupils in this country in order
to educate them. She got the position as the headmistress at the age of 53.
Yet, starting from this year, she was not able to continue her services in this job due to
the frequent illness that she suffered. Starting from December 2011, she wanted to seek for
early retirement and make room for others who are committed to their duties. She added that
she wanted to take care of her mother who was old and sick and live in with her.
Other than that, according to her again, the most unforgettable experience that she got
during her services as a teacher is being successful in recovering the children who cannot
read, write and count. It is because she is one of the remedial teacher during her early
services. One more experience that she really appreciates and cannot forget is when was
teaching in SRJK (C) as she can learn the Chinese language and understand more about their
culture.
Moreover, she also added that most of the Chinese students are very brilliant
especially in Mathematic subject. This is probably because of their eating habit and their
culture surrounding. Their parents allow the teachers to use the rattan to their children in
order to teach them. Otherwise, in the Chinese school, the sports activities and the co-
curricular activities are not actively carried out, but they prefer to replace it with a class that
focus on the academic learning.
Furthermore, she also said that she gained a lot of experiences during her services as a
teacher whether in school that consist of a small number of students or big number of
students. She also always advises us, the teachers here to always strive to improve ourselves
no matter where we supposed to teach in. Teaching is one of the responsibility that should be
carried out of our best. Nowadays, the task that had been given to the teachers are more
challenging compared to the task for the teachers in the past. The challenge of the teachers in
order to educate the students of this 21st century really needed the full commitment of the
teachers as the educators in this country. Hence, she really hopes that the teachers of Sekolah

Kebangsaan Telok Kepayang can be the hardworking teachers who are always trying to
improve the performances of the students from time to time.
However, she was also feeling a bit disappointed as she cannot afford to extend her
services in teaching. This is because of her health which is not so well and her commitment to
look after her mother who was getting sick. As such, she want to step down in the best way
by applying an early retirement at the end of this year. She hoped that the new headmaster
who will replace her later will continue to struggle in teaching and can will support the vision
and mission of the school.
She also hoped that her application to retire early would be approved as following to
her health which is not so good and her responsibility for taking care of her sick mother.
Prior to her pension, she would like to see the Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Kepayang can
achieve a hundred per cent pass percentage again in this year's UPSR as this school had
achieved the excellent achievement in UPSR examination for the best Gred B school in 2010.
We are targeting the students of this school to get excellent 5A with 6 person or 43 percent,
the excellent potential 4A 1B with 4 person or 28.5 percent, excellent potential 3A 2B with 4
person or 28.5.
With the cooperation and commitment of all the teachers here, we hope that the vision andmission of this school can be accomplished. The great result would be the most precious gift
for her before leaving the field of education which she loves very much.
In my personal opinion, the headmistress Pn. Fatimah is very particular on the
achievement of the school whether in academics, student affairs and also co-curriculum. She
is constantly monitoring the academic activities that carried out in the school and ensure the
participation of all the students and their achievements in all the examination that had been
done.
Another thing that is very special about Pn. Fatimah is she is very conscious and
particular on the landscaping and the environmental hygiene of the school. She is very fond
in decorating and beautifying the school. She is willingly to go out by herself to buy the vase
and the flower for the school. Now, the school has a Science park which is fully contains with
the herbal plants and was initiated by the students and the Science teachers according to her
encouragement. Although this school is very small comparing to other school, but if we look
-

from the outside view, it seems that it is a very big and beautiful school. The environment is
always clean and tidy is the priority of the headmistress.
She is also emphasizing to make the library of the school as a fun place to gain
knowledge as it is the heart of gaining knowledge. The library is one of the place that always
been monitored by the headmistress Pn Fatimah to ensure the cleanliness and the great
condition of the library besides looks for the activities that had undertaken there every year.
Therefore, it can be said that she is very conscious about the joyfulness and the great learning
condition other than the school academic achievement.
Besides that, she is also had used the profit of the school bookstore to increase the
collection of books in the library. Besides, she also encouraged the librarys teachers to held
some activities in order to enhance the books collection and also the maujudmaterials in the
library. The headmistress had planned to ask for the companies or individuals for some
donation whether in form of money of books. She is also encouraging the parents to donate
for some used books, magazines or other things that can be put in the library as a reference.
As a result, the library now can have a collection of old stuff for example, the tudung saji,
tepak sirih, kukur kelapa, kacip dan tempayan.
Among the memorable experiences between me and the headmistress Pn. Fatimah isduring the Teachers Day Celebration that had been done on last 16 th May. Although the
situation of her health is not very well, but she still involved herself in the activities that had
been planned specially for the teachers day celebration. I could see that she really enjoyed
the activities as she was always smile and laughing while playing some sports that planned by
the school during the Teachers Day celebration. I also felt that she is very cheerful and open
as she can consider the other teachers as her friend even though different in ages.
Many activities had been done during the teachers day. All the activities during the
teachers day celebration can highlight the friendly attitude between the headmaster, teachers,
staffs and students. This attitude has raised the spirits of the teachers and the students in order
to promote the school. Each of the members in the school are responsible for enhancing the
image of the school either in the PPD levels, JPN levels and the national levels. The activities
that had been done were teachers pledge, students performance and some games.
As we can see in the Picture 4, all the teachers read the teachers pledge. They read it
with full of spirits and led by one of the teacher, Cikgu Rahman. While in the Picture 5, we
-

can see that the teachers club had prepared a cake for the teachers. The headmistress and the
senior assistant were together cutting the cake.
The headmistress also had joined some games that were organized specially for the
teachers day celebration to make the event more interesting. Some of the sports organized
were hockey game which was more simple than the real hockey and blowing the balloon until
it explode. In the Picture 6, we can see that the headmistress Pn. Fatimah was happy while
playing the games.
Thus, we can see that the headmistress, teachers and the students were very happy
during the teachers day. The cooperation and the commitment given by the teachers was in
line with the theme of the teachers day for this year which is Guru Penjana Transformasi
Pendidikan Negara.
In addition, based on what has been told by Pn. Fatimah, she is actually a person
whom does not like to waste time. During her leisure time, she will use it wisely such as
rearing chickens and goats in her backyard. She also has built a chicken coop and a goat shed.
This is to prevent the animals out and lost the livestock. She also added that this hobby is not
for commercial purposes, but only for the pleasure it gives. However, besides having the
chicken egg for the daily needs, some of the eggs also are sold to those who are interested inher village. According to her again, the eggs are very nutritious and provide energy. Until
now, she has more than 50 chickens and 15 goats. Although it is only a hobby, but it requires
a lot of commitment and time to manage the livestock.
During the school hour, her livestock is managed by her brother who lives near her
house. She also added that her free time will be filled with the activity as she has no children
and just lives with her old mother who is sick. Through this interview, I also know that the
headmistress Pn. Fatimah is very diligent and accustomed to the hard situation since she was
still a child. Hence, she does not tire and weary of her daily lives. Even though I felt that she
is very lonely, but she is a courageous, cheerful and a good child. I think this interview is
really significant because I feel close to and can understand her more even though I am new
in this school.
