The following diagram depicts the storage-area network (SAN) infrastructure used. To develop this document, Overland used a Windows Server 2003 with an Emulex LP10000 HBA, a Fibre Channel (FC)-enabled REO 9000 configured with a virtual tape-library (VTL) and two standalone devices (disk and virtual tape), and a NEO 2000 with a single HP Ultrium-2 drive. The NEO 2000 is equipped with a SCSI-to-Fibre Bridge Fibre Channel Option (FCO). All FC components are attached to separate ports on a QLogic SANbox 2-64 fabric switch. Overland used the Emulex HBAnyware utility to manage the HBA and the QLogic SANsurfer utility to manage the fabric switch.

Application Note

Verifying that the Emulex Driver is Installed! On the Windows server, launch the Computer Management program,

click Device Manager, and make sure that the Emulex LightPulse LP10000 is listed.

Determining the Fibre Ports of the HBA1 To launch the HBAnyware utility, click Start > Programs > Emulex >

HBAnyware.

2 In the left pane, click the active channel, and then click the Port Attributes tab in the right pane.

3 Make note of both the Node WWN and the Port WWN.

You will use this information to configure the REO devices.

Overland Storage REO SERIES™

Configuring the REO Standalone Devices and VTL1 In the REO GUI, use the Initiator Configuration page under REO

Standalone Devices to create an initiator that uses the Emulex worldwide node name (WWNN) and worldwide port name (WWPN) information, and assign the applicable devices to it.

2 Use the Initiator Summary page to verify that the information is configured properly.

3 Use the VTL Manager page to add an initiator to the VTL that uses the Emulex WWNN and WWPN.

Application Note

Configuring NEO SERIES FCO1 In the NEO SERIES FCO GUI, select Mapping from the menu.

2 Verify that all devices are mapped and online.

3 Make sure that the Online check boxes for the HP Ultrium 2 tape drive and the Medium Changer/NEO Series are selected.

Verifying that the Qlogic SANbox Identifies the Initiators1 To launch SANsurfer utility, click Start > Programs > Qlogic

Management Suite > SANsurfer.

2 In the left pane, click the Switch tab.

A closer look at the Ports shows the following online devices:

! Port 60. HP Ultrium 2-SCSI = NEO 2000

! Port 61. Ovrl-00 = REO

! Port 62. EMULEX CORPORATION = Emulex host

Verifying that HBAnyware Identifies the Overland Devices

1 In the left pane of HBAnywhere, click the active channel.

2 Verify that all logical unit numbers (LUNs) for the REO and NEO are identified.

The following ports and LUNs represent the Overland devices:

! REO, Port: 100000062B0970B5

! LUN 0. Standalone REO Disk

! LUN 1. Standalone REO Virtual Tape

! LUN 196. Virtual Tape Library (NEO Series)

! LUN 197. Virtual Tape Drive (HP Ultrium-2SCSI)

! NEO 2000, Port: 2100001086125534

! LUN 0. HP Ultrium 2-SCSI

! LUN 1. OVERLAND NEO Series

Verifying that Windows Recognizes the Overland Devices

1 Launch the Computer Management program, click Device Manager, and make sure that the various Overland devices are listed under Disk drives, Medium Changers, and Tape drives.

2 To determine which device is for the physical library (NEO 2000) and which is for the virtual library (REO), double-click each Medium Changer device and view the properties.

The first medium changer uses LUN 196; this represents the REO VTL. Double-click one of the tape drives, and notice LUN 197, which represents the virtual tape-drive assigned to the VTL.

Application Note

Note: The REO uses high LUNS (192 and up) for the VTL and its virtual tapes.

Troubleshooting the Fibre EnvironmentIf some devices are not listed in the Windows Device Manager, you might need to take additional steps.

The following identifies a few basic troubleshooting guidelines:

! Inspect FC ports for to determine whether the FC links exist.

! Inspect FC components, such as cables, small form-factor pluggable (SFP) modules, and gigabit interface converter (GBIC) transceivers.

! Determine whether the environment uses switch zoning and or LUN masking.

! Verify whether the settings (topology and speeds) are correctly set for all FC components.

! Determine whether there are updates for the software utilities.

! Verify that you are using the correct driver and firmware (check for updates).

Checking Fibre Topology and Fibre Speeds on the REO1 In the REO GUI, select Network Configuration.

2 In the Fibre Channel Configuration section, verify that the Link State is Online.

3 Set the desired Link Speed (that is, change the setting to force a 1 GB or 2 GB connection).

4 Set the desired Topology (that is, change the setting to force a Fabric/Point to Point or Loop (NL_Port) topology).
