A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a long-term energy procurement contract directly with the generating entity.

PPA contract with a generator which will bring energy (MWh) and certificates (GOs). These are in turn sleeved by a utility appointed to physically deliver the energy and other services required to the buyer.

Virtual PPA

PPA is a financial contract which brings GOs to the buyer but no physical delivery of energy, which is handled by pre-existing contractual arrangements with the utility. The PPA results in the same economic effect by virtue of transferring the net increase/decrease of €/MWh which may occur in the physical contract with the utility, to the financial contract with the generator –thus the PPA typically takes the structure of a Contract for Difference (CFD D).
