  • 1. DescriptionLine distance protection IEDREL650

The REL650 is designed for protection, monitoring and control of overhead lines andcables. The IED includes extensivefunctionality, with diverse applicationopportunities, as well as hardware, to meetspecific requirements. The powerful IEDprovides distance protection for all types ofoverhead lines, cables and power networkearthing.

    2. ApplicationThe REL650 is used for the protection, control and monitoring of overhead lines andcables in solidly or impedance earthednetworks. The IED can be used up to thehigh voltage levels. It is suitable for theprotection of heavily loaded lines and multi-terminal lines where the requirement for fastthree-pole tripping is wanted.

The full scheme distance protection providesprotection of power lines with highsensitivity and low requirement on remoteend communication. The five zones havefully independent measuring and settingwhich gives high flexibility for all types oflines.

The modern technical solution offers fastoperating time of typically 1.5 cycles.

The auto-reclose includes priority features forsingle-breaker arrangements. It co-operates

with the synchrocheck function with high-speed or delayed reclosing.

High set instantaneous phase and earthovercurrent, four step directional or non-directional delayed phase and earthovercurrent, sensitive earth fault, thermaloverload and two step under and overvoltageprotection are examples of the availablefunctions allowing the user to fulfill anyapplication requirement.

The distance and earth fault protection cancommunicate with remote end in anyteleprotection communication scheme.

The advanced logic capability, where the userlogic is prepared with a graphical tool, allowsspecial applications.

Disturbance recording and fault locator areavailable to allow independent post-faultanalysis after primary disturbances.

Two packages has been defined for followingapplications:

Five zone distance protection withquadrilateral characteristic (A01)

Five zone distance protection with mhocharacteristic (A05)

The packages are configured and ready fordirect use. Analogue and tripping IO hasbeen pre-defined for basic use.

Add binary I/O as required for yourapplication at ordering. Other signals need tobe applied as required for each application.

The graphical configuration tool ensuressimple and fast testing and commissioning.
