SessionsSessions

Ferran Ruiz Tarragó Els reptes professionals d’ensenyar avui

(Plenary)

Claire Medwell Playing with sounds (3 to 6-year-olds)

This melodic session will offer fun and practical ways of introducing and practicing common sounds in everyday words. Participants will experience rhythmic raps designed to guide the children on their discovery of English sounds and nursery rhymes will offer a cultural twist where natural rhythm and rhyme brings sound work into context in the pre-Primary classroom.

Jetro de Château One brick at a time (6 to 8-year-olds)

When we allow children to use multiple senses during the learning process, they have a far better chance of fully understanding and remembering what they have learned. In this session we will look at ways to activate your pupils’ full potential by physically building conversations and turning playtime into a

natural conversation piece.

Schuyler Hedstrom Enhancing your classroom with drama

(8 to 12-year-olds)

By identifying common challenges in the Primary classroom, we propose drama as a solution. Weekly exposure to creative, emotional and physical activities, improves pupils’ autonomy, collaboration and social abilities. This session will provide practical ideas using drama to promote essential life skills which will

have rewarding effects on your classroom environment.

Speakers

Louise Connolly A literacy toolkit (8 to 12-year-olds)

Literacy is the foundation of the learning process. The key to literacy is the development of reading skills starting with the ability to understand spoken words, moving on to being able to decode written words and culminating in the deep understanding of text. On this journey, pupils need to develop an awareness of sounds, spelling patterns, grammar and word formation to become fluent readers. The aim of this session is to provide you with a

toolkit of activities to help pupils develop these skills.

Ed Cousins Stretching the imagination (8 to 12-year-olds)

A practical session to bring creativity into your teaching. The imagination is the root of all creativity and needs to be exercised, it needs to be stretched. This presentation of highlights and concepts of the Interacting course introduces and explores good habits for creative classrooms and presents

activities for individuals and groups.

Montse Watkin The Power of Play in Science (6 to 10-year-olds)

Play and playfulness not only engage pupils but can be the missing link to raising levels of motivation and involvement. By using a range of active and creative strategies, we will see how the power of play helps pupils explore

and interact with their learning whilst making better progress.
