REGIONAL CONGRESS ACTIVITY REPORT PERIOD: FEB JUNE SEPT

CHAPTER NAME: Simcoe Muskoka YEAR: 2017

PAST ACTIVITIES (since the last congress):

Date (mm-dd-yy)

Event Name, Type AttendanceNumber

Things that worked Things that didn’t work

08‐26‐16 EIT Social Event (Barnstormer)

22 The sequence of activities was well organized for members to socialize and network.

The attendance number was lower than estimated.  Poor venue size made it hard to socialize for small to medium group

08‐18‐16 Engineering Mount Everest

(Flying Monkeys) 27

Attracted attendance close to maximum (30); Many non‐members were interested in the topic by the speaker.

It would be ideal to have half hour before the start of event for members to introduce themselves and socialize

09‐07‐16 Engineering Trivia Night

(Barnstormer) 58

Attendance exceeded estimated amount; The variety of questions had a good balance for both engineering and non‐engineering participants.

The venue was slightly crowded. And the bench seat setting at the venue was hard for the participants to network with people at other tables.

09‐16‐16 PEO Annual Golf Tournament

32 Able to coordinate with volunteers from OACETT to organize the event.

PEO & OACETT had separate sign‐in sheets for the event, which felt redundant and confusing to participants. In the future, the event will be organized online using EventBrite.

10‐02‐16  Tour of SS Keewatin  23 Attracted non‐members to attend the tour (7); Good feedback from attendees on the tour

It would be ideal to have half hour before the start of event for members to introduce themselves and socialize

11‐04‐16 Chapter’s Fall Certificate

Ceremony 40

Attendees as estimated; The sequence of activities followed as planned; Members were interested by the presentation by the guest speaker

Some members preferred to pay in person than online; Better confirmation from board members about attendance

11‐10‐16  EIT Information Event  18

Able to invite guest speakers from PEO head office; Attendees were given time during the event to ask guest speakers’ questions

It would be ideal to have half hour before the start of event for members to introduce themselves and socialize

Simcoe-Muskoka 1/18/2017

12‐10‐16  Chapter’s Christmas Party  27 The party was able to reward services of Chapter executives and other notable volunteers in the calendar year

The restaurant was crowded due to its size and lack of parking space; Research of a new restaurant to host again where it has private party rooms

01‐13‐17 PEO Bowling Networking

Event 13

The team size was ideal to provide members with decent amount of games in a restricted time.  Good feedbacks from members after the event.

The number of attendees were lower than expected.  Adjustment on advertising might be needed.

We were able to achieve our goal of hosting at least one event each month. Our past events were mainly focused on building relationships between members in the Chapter. The Chapter is currently planning events, such as the National Engineering Month, to build strong relationships with elementary schools & the community. Our next goal is to host seminars or presentations to educate high school students about the field of engineering during their transition from high school to university.

UOIT Wind Tunnel Tour 30(2) Collaboration with York Chapter. Initially hoped to complete this initiative ourselves when we contacted the facility they informed us an event was already planned by York Chapter – which we piggybacked onto.

Since it was not an event taking place within our jurisdiction was slightly less attended by our chapter, however overall since at least 2 attended it was worthwhile to piggyback on York’s efforts.
