Beyond Boundaries

As technology advancements continue to diminish boundaries and challenges become more global in scope, it is becoming increasingly important for teams, regardless of industries, regional or generational frameworks, to be multidisciplinary and collaborative. At the same time, since young people tend to adopt new technologies more easily, a technology gap between the younger and senior generations has become more apparent and will continue to widen. To improve the state of the world for a better future, we need a new collaboration framework that can accommodate both generations.

This session will invite both young and senior leaders from academia, media, business and politics to discuss issues such as:- How can we go beyond traditional boundaries in today's world?- How can young and older generations work together to improve the state of the world?- What does it mean to be successful in today's society?

Japan and Global Food Security- Shape the Role of Japan on the Future Global Imbalance of the Food -

By 2050, the global population will surpass 9 billion and demand for agricultural products is expected to double. The world's agricultural systems will be increasingly challenged by water scarcity, climate change and volatility, raising the risk of production shortfalls in a world where nearly 1 billion people are already hungry or malnourished. To a country such as Japan, which has a 39% food self-sufficiency rate, food security is a critical issue to be reckoned with.

Substantial gains can be achieved in the productivity, environmental sustainability, nutritional and economic benefits of the world's agriculture systems. However, realizing these gains will require an exceptional level of innovation and new types of collaboration among the public and private sectors, civil society, farmers and other key stakeholders.

With Global leaders in Japan across sectors and generations, this private session will explore the role of Japan in tackling this global issue and outline priority actions moving forward.

Objectives:1) To establish a common understanding on global food security issue.2) To recognize the role of Japan in this global context3) To identify initial actions to tackle this issue

Global Shapers around the World(Video connection with Shapers around the world)

In the age of social media, we are equipped with various tools to connect with the world, and this has considerably diminished traditional borders. Yet at the same time, we are still facing critical gaps in our society; youth unemployment remains high, female participation rate in the workforce remains at a dismal level in some countries, and environment is often forsaken in the name of economic growth. Looking back at the past two years since the launch of Global Shapers Community, this discussion will focus on what have we achieved, where do we stand today and to which direction are we heading?

- What have been the obstacles to achieve GSC's goal to shape a better future, and how have we endeavoured to overcome those challenges? - How can we create a more sustainable, innovative and inclusive society? - How can Shapers utilize our global network more to address local challenges?

- How can we enhance inter-hub connectiveness to better achieve our goals?
