INTRODUCTION Redtacton is a new Human Area Networking technology introduced by

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation(NTT) that uses the surface of human body as a safe high speed network transmission path.

NTT combined TACTON-”touch-act-on”, meaning “action triggered by touching” and RED- an auspicious colour according to the Japanese culture for warmth and love.

This technology is completely distinct from wireless and infrared technologies as it uses the minute electric field emitted on the surface of the human body.

Communication is possible using any body surface such as hands , fingers, feet, face, toe, skin, etc. Redtacton even works through shoes and clothing.

FEATURESRedtacton has three main functional features:

TOUCH- Touching , gripping, sitting, walking, stepping and other human movements can be triggers for locking or unlocking, starting or stopping equipment , or obtaining data.

BROADBAND AND INTERACTIVE-Bandwidth does not deteriorate even with duplex operations and simultaneous access by many users. Duplex ,interactive communication is possible at a maximum speed of 10 Mbps.

ANY MEDIA- In addition to the human body, various conductors and dielectrics can be used as transmission media. Conductors and dielectrics can also be used in combination.

PRINCIPLE AND WORKINGPRINCIPLE-Redtacton relies upon the principle that the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal can vary according to the changes of a weak electric field.

A transmitter that emits an alternating current(AC) electric field signal from an electrode, induces a weak electric field on the surface of the body.

The receiver that uses another electrode which senses changes in the weak electric field on the surface of the body, induced by the signal.

Receiver circuit detects the changes in the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal using a laser beam and then the detector circuit coverts the result into an electrical signal.

Page 6: Redtacton ppt

The transmitter and receiver are capacitively coupled to the human body through flat electrodes that are equivalent to the antennas in regular wireless system

Page 7: Redtacton ppt

The key aspect of the technology is the behavior of the AC electric field, which can be summarized in terms of three components- Quasi-static electric field (proportional to 1/r^3) Induced electric field (proportional to 1/r^2) Emitted electric field (proportional to 1/r)

FACTORS FOR STABLE COMMUNICATION Both the body and the transmitter is floating with respect to the earth ground

and is loosely coupled to it through the floating capacitance. Thus the value of the floating capacitance changes continuously with the body movements.

To get efficient induction of stable AC electric field, a variable reactance circuit is introduced into the output stages of the transmitter

Page 9: Redtacton ppt

Similar to the transmitter ,the receiver is also electrically floating with respect to the earth ground which introduces common mode noise.

If common mode noise is introduced, it has a strong effect because the impedance balance between the signal and ground lines is poor.

To solve this, a differential structure at the initial stage amplifier in the receiver is created.

HUMAN SAFETY The transmitting and receiving electrodes of the RedTacton transceiver

are completely covered with insulating film, so the body of the person acting as a transmission medium is completely insulated.

When communication occurs , displacement current is generated by the electrons in the body because the body is subjected to minute electric field, which does not harm the body.

Redtacton conforms to the “Radio Frequency exposure Protection Standard(RCR STD-38)” issued by the Association of Radio Industries and Business(ARIB).

ONE TO ONE SERVICES An alarm

If the user touches the wrong medicine an alarm will trigger on the terminal the user is carrying.

Market ApplicationsWhen a consumer stands in front of an advertising panel then information matching his or her attributes is automatically displayed.

INTUITIVE OPERATION Touch a printer to print

Print out where just by touching the desired printer with one hand and a PC or digital camera with other hand to make the link.

UNDERWATER COMMUNICATIONIt allows communication in outer space and in water where the speech constraints are very high.

COMMUNICATION INSIDE BODYRedtacton is also used for treatment.

COMPARISON WITH OTHER NETWORKS

P-POOR and E-EXCELLENT

Page 22: Redtacton ppt

ADVANTAGES Redtacton does not require the electrode to be in direct contact with the skin. High speed communication is possible between two arbitrary points on the

body. Body based networking is more secure than broadcast such as Bluetooth which

has high range of about 10m. Network congestion due to fall in transmission speed in multiuser

environments is avoided. Superior to infrared technology and Wi Fi.

It has no compelling applications that aren’t already available. It is too costly.

DISADVANTAGES

Page 23: Redtacton ppt

CONCLUSION

It is the best network to connect short distances. There is no problem of hacking as human body itself is the transmission

media. This technology definitely stands out with perfection.
