Happy School Year! The 8th grade class is up and running AND on the ball with their fund-

raising for the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. and New York City. They are currently

selling Seroogy Bars outside of the school campus until November 1st when they will begin

their in-school selling through December.

Also, for $5 you can purchase a Younkers Community Days booklet and 100% of the profits will be donated

to the class. These booklets contain hundreds of dollars of savings and the sale runs for four

days....Wednesday, November 11th -Saturday, November 16th.

At any time, you can purchase a removable and reusable colored hair extension...left over from last year.

They are only $5 and would be perfect for matching your latest fashion or for that perfect Halloween crea-

tion!!

Also, go to http://www.plunderdesign.com/courtneykern if you are interested in purchasing elegant and

affordable jewelry from an 8th grade student's mother. She is donating to the trip based upon the sales

from these attractive pieces.

Thanks for your support in the past in giving our students this once in a lifetime opportunity to explore and

learn about the two most historical cities in our great country. Let me know if you have any questions or

want to help out our fundraising efforts.

The Plants and Animals Class made and donated 14 apple crisps pans to

the homeless shelter and Golden house on Sept 16, The project was a

great success and excellent self esteem builder for the students.

Congratulation's to RS Elementary School

for having PERFECT attendance on

Thursday, September 10th 2015!

Way to go!!

Dear Parent /Guardian:

The start of our school year is a good time to be reminded to keep an eye on your child’s

head for head lice. Head lice are wingless insects that live on a person’s head. Getting

lice can happen to any child and is not a reason to miss school.

How do head lice spread?

They do not jump or fly.

Sharing hats, brushes, pillows, or having head to head contact are ways lice can

spread.

What does head lice look like?

The lice are small when first hatched-like a speck of dirt/sand on the scalp.

The adults can be as small as a sesame seed and brown.

Lice eggs (nits) are easily seen about a ¼ inch away from the scalp and firmly glued to

the hair strand. They cannot be washed or brushed out like dandruff. They are of-

ten found behind the ears or at the back of the head.

How to avoid lice?

Encourage your child not to share hats, brushes or hair accessories with friends.

Check your child’s head weekly for lice or eggs if they are scratching their head often.

What to do if you find head lice?

If you see lice/eggs, use a lice treatment shampoo and comb the head with a metal

lice comb (made to remove lice) for two weeks or longer if needed to treat.

The best way to get rid of lice is to use lice shampoo and then comb the head with a

metal lice comb (specifically made to remove lice) every day for 2 weeks.

Check all people living in your home for head lice also.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school nurse.
