Weekly Calendar Rector’s Corner
Each year Bishop Vásquez invites all the priests serving in the Diocese of Austin to fraternal gatherings. Our Annual Retreat takes places the end of May, first of June in Horseshoe Bay. These gatherings provide us a bit of rest and relaxation and serve to help us to continue to support each other in friendship and prayer. I have found that I cannot fully serve in ministry without the ongoing support of my priest friends. During these gatherings we are unable to provide daily Mass and Confessions. Some might ask, why not have Communion services in their place? The true function of a Communion service is to provide Sunday Eucharist to those communities without a priest, not to substitute for a daily Mass when a priest is not available. In place of daily Mass next week, we are offering Eucharistic Adoration. Pope Benedict XVI recommended Adoration to all the faithful to help prepare to experience the Mass more fully and fruitfully: "The act of adoration prolongs and intensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebration itself." (Sacramentum Caritatis, 66). Lay Eucharistic ministers may expose and repose the Eucharist for Adora-tion (Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside of Mass, 91). Please see the schedule for Adoration next week. Although you will not be able to receive Communion, you will be able to commune with our Lord, fellowship in spirit with other faithful, and pray. Please consider praying for the following intentions next week:
Our Church and the spread of the Gospel;
All the priests serving in our diocese;
That the Sacred Heart of Jesus would capture and heal our own hearts in the Cathedral community.
por nuestra iglesia y la propagación del Evangelio;
a todos los sacerdotes que sirven en nuestra diócesis;
