1. Building Social Capital: A Learning Agenda for the Twenty – First Century

The communities that successfully build or rebuild productive social capital will be those best positioned for

prosperity and adaptability in the coming century. Those professionals who learn the tools, skills and values of

social capital building will lead their communities and their professions. Those schools and universities that

educate their students with the values and skills to build social capital, both in the work-place and in the

community, will help to set the standards, the pace and the vision.

2. If You’re Searching for the Big Society, Here’s Where You May Find It

Harvard sociologist Robert Putnam, is perhaps best known for the phrase ‘Bowling Alone’, which he used to

describe the individualism afflicting ageing western democracies. The same man, who ten years ago delivered

the bad news, has now given us the good news. According to new research, social capital, once thought lost,

has been found again, at least in the US. http://www.social-capital.net/showart.php?articleid=294

3. Social Capital and Economic Growth

"Social capital” is a term that refers to the goodwill, trust, and cooperation evident in any particular

organisation or society. Social capital has been informally recognised in the worlds of management and

government for some time, however little has been written on the subject or its practical applications.

4. Social Capital, the Economy and Wellbeing

Distinctions are frequently made between “bonding” and “bridging” social capital, with the former focused on

ties within a group, sometimes in ways that increase distance and tension between groups, and the latter

typically having a wider and more inclusive radius. Many actual situations are characterised by social capital

that mixes these two types in different proportions, and there is no reason to expect an either-or situation to

prevail. http://www.social-capital.net/showart.php?articleid=298

5. Social Capital in Economics, Trade and Migration

There is increasing evidence that trade at the macro level is influenced by social capital --a common property

resource whose value depends on the level of interaction between people. While most work on social capital is

microeconomic, social capital has implications for the effect of trade and migration, economic reform, regional

integration, new technologies which affect how people interact, security, and more.

6. Social Media’s Effect on World Economy

Any economy can be either good or bad from an individual’s point of view. There must be a force, which can

supersede one economic phase over others. In the current global economy, social media is the driving force.

Not only because it has changed the whole concept of online marketing, but also because it has been providing

millions of job opportunities since 2009 both online and offline.
