Inflation rises but interest rates set to remain steadyThe annual rate of inflation increased slightly during the June 2014 quarter but interest rates are likely to remain at record lows for some time to come, according to the Housing Industry Association (HIA).The headline rate of annual inflation increased to 3.0 per cent in the June 2014 quarter, a slight rise on the 2.9 per cent rate during the previous three month period to March. The key measures of underlying inflation stood at 2.9 per cent and 2.7 per cent respectively during the quarter. Both measures are still within the RBA’s inflation target range, although the trimmed mean measure has risen since the previous quarter.“The data shows that inflationary pressures in the economy are increasing slowly,” commented HIA Senior Economist, Shane Garrett. “This is in line with expectations and the RBA will not be diverted from its low interest rate strategy on this basis,” he said. “The Australian dollar’s renewed strength is hampering growth in the economy’s traded sectors, and interest rates need to stay low to keep the dollar in check. Low interest rates are also helping to stimulate demand in several important sectors of the domestic economy, including residential construction.”“Both of these factors will make the RBA reluctant to increase rates for some time to come. The RBA has repeatedly committed itself to a low rates policy for some time to come and there is nothing in today’s figures to warrant a change to this,” concluded Mr Garrett.

First sale? I’m not sure what my first sale was... I can’t remember

Most memorable sale? In 2005 I sold ‘the round house’ on Cordeaux Road, Mt Kembla. It was built by a bricklayer to showcase his skills, it was completely round & dome shaped, like an igloo. It was very old & unfortunately, was demolished shortly afterwards

What are the current trends in the market? Low amount of homes on the market & increased buyer demand is forcing prices up. It’s a great time to sell & a difficult time to buy

How do you see the market in the next 5 years? Very expensive. I believe the growth will continue, there’s some great infrastructure in our region & the Illawarra is the greatest place to live

What do you find most challenging about real estate? Working every weekend

What changes would you like to see? I’d like to see more Solicitors happy to allow buyers to

sign & exchange contracts in the office with the agent (with a cooling off period). This will help secure homes quickly & prevent buyers from being gazumped

What would you be doing if you weren’t in real estate? Can’t even imagine it. I’m in real estate for life

Mentors or people you admire? A few of the old boys at my office look after me. There’s some great salespeople here, I’m very lucky to be surrounded by good people

What is your motto? ‘It’s all good!’

Goals? I’m working my butt off now so I can retire early & chase summer around the globe
