MESSAGE FROM MRS COLLINS
What an amazing sports day we had on Tuesday. We started our day, by performing our Sandfield
dance, as a whole school. Our marvelous dancing and singing, chased those grey, rainy clouds away, so the sporting action could begin. Well done to all the children for getting involved in so many different activities during the morning; racing on the track, the football dribble, the obstacle
course, skipping race, standing long jump, bean bag throw and of course the egg and spoon race!
For some of the team events points were awarded for sportsmanship and it was so great to see and hear the children cheering each other on and supporting each other when things didn’t go to plan.
This is what makes Sandfield such a special place.
Hopefully, we will be able to do it all again next year, but this time invite all the families to come and join in the fun too.
Have a great weekend! Mrs Collins

MESSAGE FROM THE INCLUSION TEAM Zones of Regulation
You may have seen the below Zones of Regulation visual in your child's school bag.
Zones of Regulation is an approach used to support the development of emotional self-regulation in children and we use it in school - in assemblies and class. All the different ways children feel and the
states of alertness they experience are categorised into four coloured zones. Children who are well regulated are able to be in the appropriate zone at the appropriate time. The green zone is where we learn best. There is no 'wrong zone' as humans feel a range of emotions.
We encourage our pupils to think about their personal tools to help them move zones and your children might talk to you about this. Please contact the Pastoral and Inclusion team via [email protected] if you want more information.

NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS! Reception Class
Reception have enjoyed learning about The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛! They were able to retell the
story and put it in order. We have also been watching our caterpillars grow and they have now gone into their cocoons. They have also made their own caterpillar telling the story.
In maths we have been looking at doubling using our ladybirds and dominoes.
Year 1 & Year 2 What an amazing time we all had at sports day. The children showed real determination and resilience as they threw, skipped, jumped and negotiated our obstacle course with skill and finesse.
The sportsmanship and encouragement they showed their friends and teammates was fantastic as they were urging them to do their very best. We have a very talented team of athletes and they all showed this as we did our short and long races with every child being actively involved and doing
their very best.
Well done Year 1 & Year 2 we were all immensely proud of you and all your achievements.
Year 3 & Year 4
What a busy week Year 3 and 4 have had, with such a variety of super learning! Their sporting skills were so obvious on Tuesday and we were very proud of the demonstration of their sportsmanship, supporting and cheering all the athletes. Spot them in the photos of Sports Day on display.
Back in the classroom, they have been continuing to explore bridges in DT by building cantilever examples this week. In Science, they have continued with the unit on States of Matter by learning all about gases and their properties. They were amazed to discover that gas has weight!
We have been reading and writing about two of the main characters from Empire’s End – Camilla’s father and Septimius Severus. The children used a strategy, Diamond nines, to sort vocabulary that they might use to describe either man and to find the most effective words. Great examples were
discussed and egotistical, omnipotent and intellectual were all favourite choices. Well done Year 3 and 4 – great learning again this week.
Year 5 & Year 6 Year 5 and 6 had an awesome time going round for the different sports day events at Guildford
Cricket club!
Our running skills were first to be tested and the shuttles proved almost too much for some. Then we negotiated the obstacle course and managed to run whilst skipping! Mr Godber also had to
dodge a few nerf vortex as the Year 6 children tried to get him! Last up was the football dribble, Egg & Spoon race and then standing long jump wore us out and we had to have a lie down for lunch!
Well done to all!!
