Reading List for Rising First Graders Summer 2020 Hello and welcome to first grade! We are looking forward to a terrific year! Here are a list of books you may enjoy reading over the summer. Some of the books are good read aloud books to share with mom and dad. There may be some books that you can read all by yourself! We hope that each one of you will read The Doorbell Rang, by Pat Hutchins. We will be using this book during the first weeks of school. * If you have a copy please bring it in on the first day of school. Required reading: “The Doorbell Rangby Pat Hutchins.     We hope that each one of you will read The Doorbell Rang, by Pat Hutchins. We will be using this book during the first weeks of school. * If you have a copy please bring it in on the first day of school.

  • Activity: We really want to hear about a favorite book that you read this summer! Draw a picture of your favorite part of that book and bring it in on the first day of school.

    * Parents please note that we do not expect your child to be able to read The Doorbell Rang on their own. Our hope is that they be familiar with the story so they will feel confident and comfortable participating in a read aloud and other activities that we will be doing in class with this book. Also, please remember the above titles are merely suggestions. Happy reading!

  • Here is an example of the Additional Practice lessons available in Chapter 1

    Please print the page, have your child complete the work and proceed back to choose another chapter. The student will complete one assignment of your choice from each chapters 2-12 excluding chapter 9 and 10 ( 9 lessons total) to be handed in to their First Grade teacher during the first week of school.
