Small Group Discussion Starters...

(Read Matthew 16:13-18 as a group, then use the following discussion guide.) 1. Jesus asked the disciples two questions...what were they and why are they

significant? Read Peter’s answer aloud and discuss what evidence he had to make such a statement. What is faith (Hebrews 11:1)?

2. When Jesus says he will build His church, what is he talking about? Had there ever been a church before? What was the “rock” that Jesus planned to build the church upon? Was it a literal rock or a symbolic statement? If the rock was not literal, was the building of a church (house) literal and why? (Read 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16)

3. Read 1 Peter 2:4-7, discuss the concept of Jesus being the “cornerstone” of the church. What was/is the purpose of the cornerstone and how does this relate to the “gathering of Jesus people?”

4. What are the dangers we can encounter when we see the church as a place or an activity rather than a gathering/congregation of God’s people? In what ways can you use this information to initiate movement from the black boxes to the red?

Care Groups are determined by geographical location and provide meals to members when there is need; for a birth, illness or death.

Once a year, groups have potluck lunches to fellowship and get to know each other better, new members included! If you do not know your Care Group, please call the office for

February is Martin Boyd Christian Home month! Martin-Boyd is a non-profit Church of Christ assisted living facility. Clear Creek leads worship at Martin Boyd on Sundays in February at 3:00 pm.

Service Opportunity: Small Groups and families are invited to worship and fellowship with the Christians at Martin-Boyd. Time spent with the residents is invaluable to them and will be to you too. Make plans to go at least one of the Sundays.

As you come to him, the living Stone, rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
