Johnson Página Web Parent Connect What Students Can Expect from This Course This is the first half of a two-year course for your child to earn one credit of World Language by the end of 8 th grade. Upon successful completion of this course the student will: Be able to participate in basic conversations. Be able to ask and answer basic questions. Be able to create with the language. Be able to read simple texts and write short paragraphs. Get into, through, and out of a simple survival or social situations. Topics Covered: Intro: alphabet, numbers, months, days of the week, greetings, weather Personal ID: activities and expressions for likes/dislikes; adjectives; personality Education: classroom items; parts of the classroom; prepositions Meal Taking: foods, beverages, expressions to show surprise and discuss health. Community & Neighborhood: leisure activities; places in the community; activities outside school. Family: family members, possessive adjectives, family descriptions, expressing age Assessments & Grading: Assessments (20%): Frequent quizzes throughout each unit. Quizzes will consist of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Exams & Projects (30%) There will be at least one project and one exam per unit of study. Homework (10%): Spend at least 10-15 minutes doing written homework, reviewing, studying, practicing orally, and practicing with Spanish websites ☺ Participation (40%): Everyone is expected to participate every day, both orally and written. Class assignments will big a large portion of your grade. The interactive notebook will be a big part of classwork. Parents, You are integral in helping students develop good study habits. Parents should monitor homework completion and help quiz students on vocabulary lists. I will contact parents frequently with phone calls and progress reports for academic and behavior success. You can always contact me anytime through my email. My website is a great resource for your reference at home, as well.
