Overview of KS4 accountability reforms

• 5A*-C replaced by ‘Progress 8’ for floor standards• Every single student will be examined and given a +or- score

against expected progress• Additional reporting of – ‘Attainment 8’–Maths and English– Ebacc–Other valid qualifications

• Double weighting of maths and English in Progress 8 and Attainment 8• New approach applies to all for 2016 results

Moving our system to expected and more than

expected progress prepares us for Progress 8 and how students will be measured

from their starting points in all subjects

How well do you know your students?

1. Is it a lack of progress over several yrs?2. Is subject knowledge the issue?3. Are subject skills the issue?4. Is revision/exam technique an issue?5. Is exam performance an issue?6. Is classwork / homework OK?7. Is controlled assessment OK?8. Is CA target grade +19. Is attendance an issue ?10. Do you have detailed planning based

on knowledge of student data?11. Do you share / feedback success

Linear Assessment = Linear Skills Teaching

• All departments will need to produce a summary of learning for each module taught in EVERY SUBJECT FOR EVERY YEAR GROUP - Why?

• For most subjects your SOW needs to change• Does how you teach need to change?• Does how you assess need to change?• What’s new, stayed the same, what’s different with the new

specifications for your subject – are you clear about the difference? Are students clear about the success criteria for your subject.

• How will you revisit things that have been taught during two years of study so that students can recall and apply in an exam setting?

1. Teacher marks the work/ task 2. Teacher provides a formative comment for improvement and

instruction. A summative comment may be appropriate also (e.g. exam question).

3. The student does the work again addressing the points for action made by the member of staff. The student is required to positively respond to the written feedback from their teacher.

*Student response to marking will be in purple pen – the Academy will provide 1 box per teacher for the next academic year, after that departments need to top up with their own money

Student response to marking 3-step process

Students should reattempt a piece of work that they need to improve to get to the next level/grade or the teacher builds in additional challenge

Schemes of work adjusted to allow time for this to become a routine part of the year ahead

You need to be planning to use this once per half-term – as a minimum

Review and Improve time can be linked to student response to marking, and use of PLCs and individual RAPs.
