HSC Drama performance examinations Monday 27th August

I would like to congratulate our Year 12 Drama students who had their performance pieces marked for their HSC. The students were ably guided by Ms Roberts and Ms Pappin who were both extremely happy with the quality of performance. The students are also glad that this particularly stressful part of their course is now over. We look forward to sharing their success in the coming months.

Year 9 study skills

All Year 9 students underwent Study Skills training this week. Ms Loizou and her team of assistants coordinate the sessions. The evaluations from students and staff have been, on the whole, very positive!

Links to Learning program

The ‘Links to Learning’ program continues, with the selected students working towards gaining skills that will help them with their learning in future years. Ms Pappin, as coordinator, has been impressed with the commitment and dedication from our students. Well done to all involved!

HSC English Extension major works due

Our Extension English students recently submitted their final pieces for HSC marking. The students have been preparing their pieces all year under the guidance of Ms Payne. Again, we wish the students well with their final products and in the marking of their pieces.

Leadership Investiture

The Annual Randwick Boys’ High School leadership Investiture will take place on Friday 7th September. On this occasion, we celebrate our students who have been elected to formal leadership positions at our school. Parents and guests have been invited via letter and email. We look forward to you joining us on this very special occasion.

Educational Access Schemes University Admissions Centre

Education Access Schemes aim to help students whose education has been negatively affected during Year 11-12 to receive an offer to university. Students must be able to demonstrate their studies have been negatively affected for a period of at least 6 months as a result of circumstances beyond their control or choosing.

The disadvantages are grouped into eight broad categories:

−− disrupted schooling

−− financial hardship

−− severe family disruption

−− excessive family responsibilities

−− English language difficulties

−− personal illness/disability

−− refugee status

−− school environment

EAS information & application forms have been emailed to all Year 12 students’ email accounts.

Drama HSC Showcase

This week our Year 12 Drama class completed their practical exami-nation for Drama. We are very proud of their efforts, commitment and passion for the arts.

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Ms Louise Roberts who worked tirelessly throughout the holidays, after school and on the weekends to ensure the boys felt confident in their ability to shine. Her dedication to our drama class, expertise and industry knowledge allowed each and every one of our students to excel. We are very grateful to Asher McNally who is always willing to lend a hand backstage, and to William McCarthy for being an amazing lighting operator throughout the day. We would also like to thank Ms Payne, Ms Munro, Ms Firulovic, Mr Kassab, Mr Bladwell, Ms Check and Ms Quansah for their support and help this week.

Year 7 Taronga Zoo excursion


Year 9 Marine Studies fish dissection

On Thursday 23rd August, Ms Wallis’ Year 9 Marine Biology class did a dissection on a blackfish.

During this lesson we learnt about the key structures of a fish, which we had been learning about in class, and were able to see first hand, how the internal/external structures of the fish function, and the vital roles they play in the fish’s survival.

We first examined each fin on the fish and learnt the key roles of each one and how they work. After viewing these, we began our internal dissection to examine some of the vital internal organs, such as the gills, swim bladder and the heart.

From this we were able to see the connection between the organs throughout the body; how the gills connect to the lungs, which sup-ply blood to the heart and then around the body.

This dissection helped to enhance our knowledge of the fish’s anatomy and provided vital information to help us prepare for our upcoming assessments.

Sustainability Expo

Year 10 students attended both an Environmental Leadership Workshop and a Sustainability Expo at Marrickville Youth Centre last week.

During these events the boys gained valuable leadership skills, attended inspirational workshops on key aspects of environmental sustainabil-ity, and developed a sustainability themed workshop presentation for primary school students, all about worm farming and composting.

These boys were highly commended for their efforts on the day by the primary school students, their teachers and the organ-isers! Thank you for your innovative and engaging presenta-tion, Freddy Whalebone, Zeke Dauth, Joshua Hillard, Hayden Wong, William McCarthy, Nicholas Franciskus and Dingbang Li.

Summer grade sport 2018/19

Over the past month, enormous numbers (over 200) RBHS athletes trialled across a wide range of sports for the upcoming summer grade season. Due to the high level of competitiveness, particularly in our junior age groups, unfortunately not everyone is able to take part in grade sport. For those who were unsuccessful this time around, do not be discouraged. Work on the aspects that may need improvement and return hungry for trials the following season.

Well done to of all students and grade coaches during the tri-als period. All athletes who made selection this season will rep-resent ‘The Wicks’ proudly as part of the competitive North West Metropolitan sporting zone. Who are we?South Eastern Little Athletics Centre (SELAC) competes at ES Marks Field, on Boronia Street in Kensington.

The 2017/18 season commences Saturday 22nd September 2018.

We meet every Saturday morning between 8.00am and 11.00am during the Summer Athletics season (September–March).
