Ramsey is situated in northern New Jersey, twenty miles from New York City. With a population of 13,000, residents are served by two elementary schools (K-3), one elementary school (4-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school (9-12). The near 860 students of Ramsey High School reside in Ramsey and Saddle River. Ramsey High School, established in 1908, and occupying a building built in 1936 with additions in 1967, 1975, and 2006 has a tradition of excellence in educa- tion. The High School has developed an educational program that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of its students. PHILOSOPHY OF RAMSEY HIGH SCHOOL Ramsey High School serves a suburban community whose vision, like that of the staff, is to provide a quality education for its youth. The single most important role of the school is to empower students to become autonomous learners who will continue to recognize and solve problems throughout their lives. Through its curriculum, Ramsey High School will achieve this goal by informing, guiding, and challenging students to understand that new knowledge brings new questions and responsibilities. Realizing the interdependence of skills, content, and changing technology, the school will establish an atmosphere in which students increase their competence in acquiring information, in thinking through issues, and in communicating ideas and opinions. An additional role of the school is to develop intellectually and vocationally informed students capable of participating in both domestic and world affairs. Thus, the school will instill in its students knowledge of, and respect for, the diverse cultural heritage of the United States. World Challenge The World Challenge program offers educational expeditions to countries around the world. The trips are designed to include exposure to different cultures, completing service projects, decision-making and leadership - building opportunities, in which students explore countries by hiking, and other physical challenges. Ramsey students have travelled to Costa Rica, Peru and now Ecuador. The Ramsey School District’s 21st Century Learning Initiative will prepare students for the complex, demanding and competitive global economy.
