“ HALLELUJAH”

BY PASTOR YEMISI BAMGBOSE

JOSHUA 6:6-20

Song: 'The wall of Jericho fell down flat

The wall of Jericho felldown flat

And the people of God were praising the Lord

The wall of Jericho fell down flat'

Hallelujah is a song of victory, a song of deliverance, a song of liberation and, a song of

restoration etc.

Anytime the people of God praise Him, the walls of restrictions will fall down. Anytime we

enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts, the walls of offence and difficulty crumble.

Whenever we engage in the songs of praise to God Almighty, every enemy blocking our way

flees.

Hallelujah is a song for the victorious. Those who have tasted of the goodness of God, those

that have experienced His power of deliverance, those that have tasted of His grace and

mercy will surely shout praises to our God in the beauty of holiness.

Hallelujah is for those who have been rescued from the power of the grave and for those that

God has brought out of the miry clay, out of the lion’s den, and out of the prison of life. Paul

and Silas praised God whilst in prison and the Lord sent an earthquake into the prison and

the physical bonds were loosed and the prison doors were flung open.

Hallelujah is the greatest weapon in the hands of our great God. King Jehoshaphat and his

people were surrounded by three great kingdoms and there was no way out for Jehoshaphat

and his small nation, but when they employed the weapon of praise, it was God Himself that

arose for them, by sending forth an ambush against the other three kings and their mighty

soldiers. They each helped destroy one another.

In the case of Joshua and the children of Israel, the wall of Jericho stood as a mighty

obstruction to them possessing the Promise Land. The city was shut against them, but God,

through their simple obedience of raising a shout of Hallelujah, gave them victory without

much effort.

As God has kept us alive to see the last month of the year, He deserves our praise. God has

fought many battles this year for us. He has preserved our lives, kept our homes, healed our

bodies and provided for our needs, therefore we know that if we are wise, we ought to praise

Him throughout this month and into the new year.

Why must we shout Hallelujah?

1) Because you are alive. Only the living can praise Him - Isaiah 38:19

2) For the battles He has fought and won on our behalf. God has fought many battles for us

Continued on page 3

Winners’ News Issue 6 Volume 12 December 2017

3

3) For daily loading us with benefits. When we consider the fact that we are not beggars, we

are not begging to eat, and that He has made it possible for us to have food on our table,

shelter over our families and clothes to wear, we will appreciate Him - Psalm 68:19

4) When you praise Him, He draws closer to you. When God draws closer to you, you will

attract His attention, His blessings, His miracles, and above all, He will drive away all evil from

you and your family - John 12:32

5) When you praise God, your victory in the new year is assured. For example, in II

Chronicles 20: 1-24; three kings gathered against Jehoshaphat and the small country of

Judah. In verse 17, God told him that 'you do not need to fight, just praise me and I will fight for

you'. As you praise God from now into the new year, your victory is assured, in Jesus name.

6) For granting your previous requests and answering your prayers. Hannah praised God after

she gave birth to her Samuel and she also honoured her vows by returning Samuel back to

God at Shiloh. Hannah got her miracle in Shiloh and fulfilled her vows in Shiloh and not on

Mount Sinai.

Many of us would pray to God in a particular place or ministry, and after God has answered

your prayers, will start looking for another ministry that you think better deserves you than

where God answered your prayers. We must be wise to fulfil our vows wherever we have

made one.

Many will pray to God for gainful employment and after God has answered their prayers, will

carry their tithes into another ministry or donate it to charity. This is a great error and

abnormality. We should learn from Hannah when she went back to Eli in I Samuel 1:24-28.

7) Praise is God's food. God does not need your money, or eat your bull and cow; praise is

God's food. Those who offer Him praise, glorify Him, and those who order their conduct

aright, He shows His Salvation to them. When your yes is yes and when you live and lead a

holy life, you order your conduct aright. People who do these things glorify God and He

blesses them in return - Psalm 50:23.

For those who think they do not have any reason to thank God for this year, think about

those who started the year with us that are now in prison, or in a terrible position, or dead.

We are not better than these people, but God has kept us alive. He deserves our praise.

Remember Nebuchadnezzar who attributed his achievements to his personal efforts and

became a beast until he learnt a great lesson. Do not become a beast, give glory and praise to

our God for the Year 2017.

Let somebody shout a thunderous HALLELUJAH TO THE KING IMMORTAL, INVISIBLE

AND THE ONLY WISE GOD. Hallelujah!!!

Prayer: You will have reasons to shout Hallelujah for the rest of this year and into

the new year in Jesus name.

Shalom!

YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THIS IN CHURCH

Hey! It's MY turn to sit on the front pew!

I was so enthralled, I never noticed your sermon went over time 25 minutes.

Personally, I find witnessing much more enjoyable than golf.

I've decided to give our church the 500.00 a month I used to send to TV evangelists.

I volunteer to be the permanent teacher for the Junior High Sunday School class.

Forget the denominational minimum salary: let's pay our pastor so s/he can live like we do.

I love it when we sing hymns I've never heard before!

Since we're all here, let's start the worship service early!

Pastor, we'd like to send you to this Bible seminar in the Bahamas.

Nothing inspires me and strengthens my commitment like our end of year cleaning!

PLAYING UP IN CHURCH

One Sunday in a Midwest City, a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship

hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing

the battle.

Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out.

Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation,

"Pray for me! Pray for me!"

THE CLEANING WOMAN

There was a little old cleaning woman that went to the local church. When the invitation was

given at the end of the service, she went forward wanting to become a member. The pastor

listened as she told him how she had accepted Jesus and wanted to be baptized and become a

member of the church.

The pastor thought to himself, "oh my, she is so unkempt, even smells a little, and her fin-

gernails are not clean. She picks up garbage, cleans toilets - what would the members think of

her." He told her that she needed to go home and pray about it and then decide.

The following week, here she came again. She told the pastor that she had prayed about it

and still wanted to be baptized. "I have passed this church for so long. It is so beautiful, and I

truly want to become a member."

Again, the pastor told her to go home and pray some more. A few weeks later while out

eating at the restaurant, the pastor saw the little old lady. He did not want her to think that

he was ignoring her so he approached her and said, "I have not seen you for a while. Is

everything all right?"

"Oh, yes," she said. "I talked with Jesus, and he told me not to worry about becoming a

member of your church."

"He did?" said the pastor.

"Oh, yes" she replied. "He said even He hasn't been able to get into your church yet,

and He's been trying for years."

HYMN 2

OH LORD OUR GOD IN AGES PAST

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast,

And our eternal home.

Under the shadow of Thy throne

Thy saints have dwelt secure;

Sufficient is Thine arm alone,

And our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,

Or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in Thy sight

Are like an evening gone

Short as the watch that ends the night

Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever rolling stream,

Bears all its sons away;

They fly, forgotten, as a dream

Dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,

Our hope for years to come,

Be Thou our guard while troubles last,

And our eternal home.
