Raising Aspirations for Successful Futures
Through Professional Development
2018-19

A Message from the Principal Joseph Chamberlain College is committed to lifelong
learning and the professional development of all our staff
As always our continuing professional development
programme (CPD) provides an excellent base for supporting
ongoing improvements in teaching, learning and assessment and for improving the functions of our
administration support areas. Our local and national recognition has enabled us to extend our collaborative
partnerships with teacher training providers and teaching school alliances and to enhance our reputation of excellence
in CPD. This year we will also be offering the level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) programme and
already have several members of staff on this course as well as a number of others on leadership programmes.
Our internal development activities naturally focus primarily
on teachers as they are central to students’ achievements but we are increasingly mindful of providing quality CPD for
our support staff too. Apart from the mandatory CPD
courses we will continue to expand our offer to remain current and pro-active in the training we provide.
The rolling programme provides CPD in response to
identified needs throughout the year. Once again this year we will continue to offer a range of opportunities and
encourage staff members to share their expertise by delivering sessions in the CPD programme. If you would
like to be involved contact Tom Williams. Remember, as you teach you also learn alongside expanding your
expertise and skill as a presenter.

Job Shadowing
Gaining a New Perspective
Job shadowing is where an individual from one area
of the organisation has the opportunity to work
alongside and gain experience of the role of another
individual, and gain an insight into that particular
work area. It can also be used to provide an
individual within a department the opportunity to
work alongside more experienced colleagues so they
can learn and develop within their current role.
Additionally, shadowing of leaders can support
colleagues in understanding these roles to help
prepare individuals for future roles.
Shadowing is a module of Aspiring Leaders Part B –
Applying Leadership Skills. Both full time and part
time staff are welcome to apply for job shadowing
opportunities.
Please contact Jessica, [email protected] for more

part of the development afternoon and teaching and
support staff are invited to attend any of more than 50
