8 TheAm841locomotiveisafouraxledieselelectricloco-motivewithanelasticallymountedcabinthecentre.It wasdesignedformediumdutyshuntingservice,briefmainlineserviceandconstructionsiteoperation.Itwas thusequippedwithanelectricsystembaseduponthreephaseasynchronousconvertertechnologywithelectricresistancebrakesandhydrostaticallydrivenauxil-iarysystems.
Fortheprotectionoftheenvironment,theAm 841wasdesignedforlownoiseandexhaustemissions.
TheAm841canberemotelycontrolledbyradioandhasmultipleunitcontrol,thoughthisisnotcompatiblewith othervehicletypes.Withthemultipleunitcontrol,uptothreeAm841scanbeoperatedfromasinglecab.It is alsofittedwithasafetycontrolsystem,ATP,ZUB,ETM orETCSplustrainandshuntingradio.
Vehicle deployment/applicationThisisafouraxledieselelectriclocomotivewiththeBo’Bo’ axlearrangementandacentralcab.Thelocomotivesare usedbyInfrastructureforconstructiontrainsandfordeliveringballastto,andremovingitfrom,construc-tion sites.SomelocomotiveshavefullETCSLevel2andcanthereforealsobeuseduponnewlines.

Theairsupplyofaround760,000litersissufficienttoprovideover50personswithfreshairfor6 hours.Agastightrescuecontainerwithaircurtainunitandairlockhelpstopreventtheingressofcontaminatedairinanemergency.
