Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series Opens Tonite
Mary Niedecken 1932-2015
Any track that kicks the season off with 3 major events certainly deserves a pat on the back. Well, “hold on to your horses”, because we’re coming back in 2 weeks, May 22nd, with race number two for the Super Late’s. That’s right, another 100 lapper. And we will have our annual fireworks show on the night of the Rubber & Specialties Blizzard race.
Make sure you go to our website, snowballderby.com or watch In The Groove, Monday May 11th at 6:00 pm on BLAB-TV for all the up to date info on what’s coming up. You can also tune in our radio show with Robbie Harvey on ESPN 1450 AM radio Tuesday at 6pm. In a month retiring radio personality and former driver Marty White will be honored here, benefit-ing Ronald McDonald House.
We never like to build you up with exciting news just to end this article on a sad note.
All the staff at Five Flags Speedway would like to send our condolences to Wayne Niedecken Jr. and his sister, Waynetta Head for the loss of their mother, Mary Ann Niedecken. Mary went to be with Wayne Sr. on April 28th and no one could have planned it any better as it was Wayne Sr’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mr. Wayne. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole family.
Marty White
The best way to open a new season at any speedway is with a special event. We kicked off 2015 with the “King of The Wing” sprint cars, then came back with the Deep South Crane Rentals Super Late Models for their first of 4 Blizzard Series races this year.
We still think our fans deserve more so tonight it’s another 100 lapper for the Allen Turner Pro Late Models, along with the Faith Chapel Super Stocks, Beef O Brady’s Sportsman and the always excit-ing Butler U Pull It Bombers. The Pro Late Models will be treated to a double header as they will travel to Mobile International Speedway Saturday. This usually means more cars by having two 100 lappers the same weekend.
Expect drivers such as Junior Niedecken, Larry Blount, from J a c k s o n v i l l e , Te x a n Ryan Luza, Johanna Long and a bunch more.

By now, Geno Denmark is a household name here. The Dauphin Island, Ala., native has seemingly enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of the Butler U-Pull-It Bombers Series.
Along the way, Denmark’s newfound success has earned him new fans and a level of respect among his Pensacola peers. But there’s someone in his household that isn’t over the moon with all of Denmark’s racing exploits. “She’s not happy about it,” he said.
“She” is Diana Denmark, Geno’s older sister, who has to be the responsible sibling when her kid brother is having all the fun on Friday nights. Island Rain-bow, which serves up pizza and snow-balls among other fare, on Dauphin Island is the Denmark’s family-run business.
And when Geno heads off in his orange-and-white No. 88 to chase checkered flags, his parents, Steven and Sharon, make the trip with him. Diana stays behind to ensure the Island Rain-bow brings in a pot of gold. “She’s gotta work when everybody else leaves,” Geno Demark explained.
Diana, of course, is not a hater. She’s proud of her baby brother, and does not begrudge any of the plaudits that come her brother’s way. It’s just a matter of missing out on all the fun. She has missed quite a bit of fun recently. Geno Denmark, 21, has yet to lose in 2015 at Five Flags. He hopes to extend his winning streak to three consecutive feature victories.
With a father who boasts a Super Stocks Snowball Derby victory, Geno seemed ripe for racing. Looks can be deceiving, though. “I didn’t really grow up around it,” Denmark said. “I heard stories all about it. But my dad had sold all of his racecar stuff by the time my sister was born, and I was born two years later.”
A few years ago, son told father he had a racing itch to scratch. Fellow driver B.J. Leytham had an additional racecar parked outside his shop. “My dad asked if I could drive it — that’s just how dad is. He’ll ask anybody anything,” Denmark said. “I borrowed B.J.’s car one time and that’s how I started racing.”
After Steve Denmark and friend Darrell Jackson bought the car, Geno purchased the tires and safety equipment and was ready to give the sport a shot.
