Psalm 96

O sing to the LORD a new song;

his marvelous works among all the

Many of us start the day at the computer looking at morning news clips, reading emails, checking activities of family and other friends on Facebook and other social media, and sometimes getting lost in the “click bait”. But by subscribing to the daily lectionary on the PC(USA) web site, the daily lectionary will be among your morning emails, presenting the opportunity to read and listen to the Word with our minds and hearts. J une is upon us. Our graduates have been recognized and summer activities begin to command our attention. But have you noticed how Mother Nature seems unable to lock

in on summer weather? Or on any single season’s weather at all? Could we be looking at “two-or-more-seasons” each week all summer? Let’s hope not!! What does June hold for RPC? Let’s see—

† We’ll celebrate Pentecost on June 4th. Be sure to wear red! In addition, during this

service we’ll be commissioning our youth and their adult sponsors/chaperones who are going on their mission trip to Chillicothe, Ohio.

† We’ll also celebrate Fathers’ Day on June 18th. Moms and kids, you have a special

duty that day: get dad to church on time on his special day..

And looking further ahead:

We invite all who love to sing to lift high their voices in songs of worship during our ser-vices. All are invited (and would be most gladly welcomed) to attend choir practice before each service at 9:45 a.m. in the choir room, which is on the 2nd floor of the church office building,

It’s important to remember that our church services don’t take a summer vacation, so please put “go to church” on your calendar for each Sunday this summer. We look forward to seeing you regularly, and hope you look forward to seeing us!

Those of you who have been at RPC for at least one year know that June is traditionally the month during which we hold a joint worship service our sister congregation, Emanuel In-donesian Presbyterian Church. You also know that the joint service has traditionally been conducted outside (weather permitting) and has been followed by a picnic. We must re-port to you that, as this newsletter was being prepared, plans for such a joint venture this year have not been made. But it may still happen! Stay tuned—if the plans materialize, we’ll let you know.

Just like the US Marines, we’re looking for a few good young men and/or young ladies from our youth group to bolster the lay reader and usher rolls. So, willing young men and young ladies, please let Charlene Janes know if you are among the brave who will assist in this part of our services. There’s no boot camp, and the sense of service to God and community is great.

And finally, we’re exploring with the Christian Education leadership the idea of reinstating our acolytes. There’s something uplifting about having acolytes light the candles at the start of service, and also have them ring the bell to signal the end of our Passing of the Peace and the resumption of our worship service. Parents, would you mind discussing this with your children? Charlene Janes would love to know if we have interested children. Once interest has been determined, we’ll arrange instruction and training, and promise we’ll have supportive adults available to provide immediate help to the children in the event of any problem.

The May Children's Coin Collection collected $75.88 to be used by the youth during their Mission Trip to Chillicothe, OH.

Every mission trip, the Youth Group makes a gift to the community that they visit. This year, the youth will buy canned goods to donate to local Chillicothe food banks.

Thanks for your continued support of the youth!

This month, the youth will be travelling to

Chillicothe, OH on their Mission Trip. To make their six hour one-way drive to Ohio more fun, we will be making goodie bags for the nine youth and

four adults going on the trip.

A sign up sheet will be in the Calvin Room for people willing to stuff a goodie bag with snacks, games, entertainment, etc. for each person going on the trip. If you want to fill a goodie bag, please

sign up on the sign up sheet or contact Rachel Jung at

[email protected] or 240-205-1583.

T his past season was a good one for RP. We gained some new supporters, hired a PT Develop-ment Director, obtained a 501©3, and upgraded the shelter with a new paint job, new hand-

rails, new drapes, refurbished lockers, a new storage area, and an outdoor Donation Box. A new website is being developed. Our guests were treated to several wonderful concerts, chess lessons, gift cards, gifts and decorations for all major holidays, lots of donated clothing, and very nice pil-lows and backpacks to take as they left. We ended the year with a Tea that was fun and brought in some needed funding and a benefit house concert the night before. Best of all, of the 102 women who spent some time with us, over half now have a better place to live. For all of this we have many generous volunteers and donors to thank, and we want to be sure that all of you know how much we appreciate your support, Without RPC there wouldn’t be a Rainbow Place. You started us and have generously helped us for 35 years! We cannot thank you enough! Have a wonderful summer! Nancy

T his has been a banner year for Rainbow Place! We have succeeded in becoming an inde-pendent non-profit and have just completed our major fundraiser: The Afternoon Tea and

Fashion Show on April 29th. It was held at St Mark Presbyterian Church and attracted 162 (mainly) women who enjoyed Tea, a selection of sweets and savories as they bid on 40 items in a silent auction. A short live auction was held with the Honorable Sid Katz, a member of the Mont-gomery Council, our auctioneer! Ten of our guests modeled fashions from Lord and Taylor, with Nicole Lewis being a special hit modelling a beautiful prom dress. Lord & Taylor was especially generous giving expensive perfumes and a $100 gift certificate to our Silent Auction. Rockville Presbyterian Church was an outstanding supporter, filling 3 tables with guests. A spe-cial table host was the Mayor of Rockville, Bridget Newton with Beryl Feinberg, a member of the Rockville Council, as her guest. With everyone participating in our auction, a preliminary esti-mate indicates that we have made approximately $20,000 for Rainbow Place. The Board of Direc-tors wishes to thank everyone for their enthusiastic, generous support. We couldn't have such success without you! Anne Baur, President of the Rainbow Place Board

+Christian Symbol+

Bee

The bee symbolizes various traits across cultures and faiths, including com-munity, industry and resurrection. Its sting may represent judgment, while its honey calls to mind the sweetness of divine riches. Multiple times in the Old Testament, the Promised Land is described as “flowing with milk and hon-ey” (e.g., Exodus 3:8), and the Psalms declare God’s words “sweeter than honey” (19:10; 119:103).
