student
: A patent is a form of intellectual property (IP) which gives its owner
the legal right to exclude others from making, using, selling, and
importing an invention for a limited period of years, in exchange for
publishing an allowing public disclosure of the invention. In most
countries patent rights fall under civil law and the patent holder
needs to sue someone invading the patent in order to enforce his or
her rights. In modern usage, the term patent usually refers to the
right granted to anyone who invents something new, useful and non-
obvious. Patents are valuable sources of information for engineering
design. Students learn about patents and patent searching, On the
creative side of the design process, some students used patents to
verify the feasibility of their ideas and to inspire creative solutions to
their problems.
