7)What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your opening sequence and why?

How Did You Attract Your Audience?By Jaeden CondappaTo make our production appealing to our target audience we decided to put a modern twist on the classical horror genre. We aimed to achieve this in five key areas which were:NarrativeCharactersMusicTitling Setting Conventionally, horror genre films tend to have an enigma code in the opening sequence that often acts as an introduction to the story behind the film such as telling the story of a house that was once haunted. This intrigues the audience making them curious as to what happened and what will happen during the course of the film like trying to solve a mystery or a puzzle. We decided to take this idea of solving a puzzle and incorporate it into our opening sequence by ordering the shots in such a way that there are vague links between each clip in order to make the audience question why the ghoul is hunting the characters and on purposely made sure that some characters disappear so that the audience thinks about them curious to their whereabouts.Narrative As our target audience was people in the age range of 16-25, we decided that it would provide a unique modern twist by using teenagers for our characters as this would help the audience to link more closely with the characters allowing them to be more immersed in the storyline. Teenagers are stereotypically rebellious and curious, this behaviour is reflected in two of the teens that lead into the building except one who goes against this norm.CharactersMusic is an extremely popular form of media primarily due to the development of portable media allowing people to listen to music anywhere. The soundtrack in a film is very important, it can be very catchy such as a musical or it can provide atmospheric tension to horror scenes that psychologically play on the audiences mind. For our production we decided to use a slow melody comprised of ambient wind sounds, heavy bass notes and soft guitar plucks to provide a light, eerie atmosphere to the film sequence. We also put short overlays of children laughing to add to the psychedelic feel to the sequence.MusicAs our sequence as edited black & white we decided to use a vibrant red block text for our titles to heavily contrast against the clips. The colour red indexically links to ideas of blood, danger and warnings; this will intrigue the audience and draw their attention to the text which along with the quick cuts and transitions comes together to implement the typically horror genre conventions.TitlesA lot of horror films generally feature an old abandoned town or building which would have a history behind them that the characters are often investigating. Our twist on this was to use an old historical building that would act as a school where our characters are breaking into.Setting
