Question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The job of major distributors like 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros is to distribute the films and get them into the cinemas worldwide. To put the films on DVD and Blu-ray, or onto iTunes, Love film and Netflix. The distributors create adverts and trailer and give them out to lots of companies, who will then advertise it on their websites like YouTube…

For our film “The Abduction” we would be looking at a smaller and independent distributor because it is a film made on a very small budget, using low quality camera equipment. However if we were to have a very big budget and high quality equipment and great quality, well-known actors we would need a major distributor, so that our film would have been worth while making.

If we could have any distribution company we would go for one like 20th Century Fox, but because our film is a low budget one, being more realistic we would go for an English based company lie WARP. It’s a company that is well established and has distributed some successful films like Four Lions and This is England.

If our film was to be distributed by a company like Warp I believe that it should be featured in a multiplex cinema like Odeon. The reason for this is because our Target audience isn’t all that specific, males under the age of 35. However our study and research has shown that a lot of people over that age also like to watch action films.

The advertisement of our product will be mainly aimed at being in the UK. So advertising it on UK websites only and in Cinemas across Britain. Another popular way of a advertising films in by putting big posters on the side of buses or bus shelters. In bigger cities there’s the possibilities of advertising on billboards like so. All these ways are very effective ways of advertising, however they all come with a price tag.
