‘What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?’

After completing research into different institutions, I have been able to pick one that I believe my music magazine could represent.

Prometheus Global Media represents magazines such as

BillBoard, based in New York City.

‘What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?’

I choose this institution to distribute my magazine because I feel many qualities of both medias match, making this business partnership a success. Using an institution that understands the theme of the magazine means that the attributes The Zone has will be enhanced by the company distributing my magazine. Prometheus is based in New York, and although my magazine will be sold in cities across the UK, New York is a city well known for having a popular music scene for the music my

magazine represents.

‘What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?’

The New York music scene is well respected in the UK due to a YouTube series called ‘Boiler Room’ where house and dance DJ’s record sets. These sets are popular amongst the audience of my magazine because of the status these sets give the DJ’s. Many of the DJ’s travel between America and the UK which are the two most popular places for these music genres. This links the

audience of my magazine to New York and the music scene where the institution is based.

Whilst Prometheus distribute magazines such as Billboard which is aimed at over 25’s, my magazine will be aimed at 18-25 year olds. This enables my magazine to fill a gap in the institution

and act as a feeder for the audience into BillBoard. This technique will build brand loyalty for Prometheus because many

features of The Zone and Billboard will attract the same interests but in different age groups. By using my magazine as a feeder into Billboard means that The Zone will add something to this institution but also be independent instead of adding to

a list of magazines Prometheus distributes.

Prometheus also supports other strands like entertainment magazine which relate to the features in The Zone, showing that this institution can support the entrainment and features that

The Zone has. This institution also distributes magazines aimed at people working in media and advertising which is something that I feel my target audience will go on to do in careers. My

audience having a great interest in music means that these industries are something that their interests may lead them to work in to. So, once again, means that The Zone is acting as a

feeder into these magazines.
