FOCUS GROUP AND WHAT THEY SAID? From my focus group and my peer feedback I decided that my advert needed more technical conventions, for example –advertising a Facebook or a twitter for the target audience to visit or putting a rating or a review so that people knew straight away whether it was going to be a good album to buy. Comparing my advert with others, mine was very boring for my target audience.

This was my old advert, there are a number of things wrong with this one. FIRST of all, the name of the dancer was across the advert and not the original singer. The album name wasn’t present, and neither was any logo’s that would make the audience find out more information about the singer and the album. It looks boring.

This is my final advert and I feel this is a massive improvement, as the singer’s name is present and so is the album name which is a ‘must’ convention on an advert. I’ve also included 2 reviews from other magazines to make it more interesting to the audience. At the bottom there are a number of recognisable logo’s of places where you could access information and buy on itunes.

Tom said some of my shots in my music video were blurry/shakey so next time I film any action shots I would ensure the camera was still. A positive point that came up from my focus group was that all three products had continuity and they all said they would recognise my advert if it was seen in a magazine in a shop.

AUDIENCE THEORY

I received feedback about how people just wanted to watch what was in the music video rather than listen to the song which can be linked to two theorists called Katz and Bulmer-they believed in active audiences and that us as an active audience just seek to satisfy our needs, basically we choose what we want to watch. The feedback from a specific girl said that she would of preferred to watch more of her acting and dancing rather than just watch her dance, she really liked her facial expressions. She also said that the most interesting bits to watch were the shots that have more than one shot inside a shot, and the black and white over colour was successful too.

I think David Morely another theorist whom said that you interpret different videos depending on social class, gender, age, ethnicity, religion was appropriate to apply to my video because of my target audience. We interpret music videos very different for example the music video –Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke was very controversial because women see this video as sexist, but men saw it as sexy and cheeky. My audience is mainly female dancers as it’s a ballet video, so this can be seen as sexist towards boys to some people, however I don’t want it to be so for girls to watch, I want it to be seen by both genders.
