REVIEWING THE SITUATION

Lionel Bart was once Britain’s most celebrated

composer; he created Oliver! and lived in a 27

room ‘fun palace’ where his guests included

Noel Coward, Rudolf Nureyev and The Beatles.

Then he went bankrupt and wound up ensconced

in a flat above a laundromat.

In Reviewing the Situation we meet a vodka-fuelled

Lionel, who performs his classic songs whilst

sharing stories from his incredible life. Featuring

classics “Living Doll”, “From Russia With Love”,

“You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two” and “As Long

as He Needs Me”, Reviewing the Situation is an

insightful and warm-hearted story brought to life

by one of Australia’s most talented and acclaimed

writer/performers.

Award-winning Bradley McCaw has sold out a show in New York, worked with The Ten Tenors, and returns from a sell-out season at Wonderland with this brand new show.

Part rock concert, part cabaret and featuring

a live ten-piece band, Bendigo to Broadway

sees Bradley McCaw retrace the steps of his

international career. Beginning in his home town

as a young ‘wannabe lawyer,’ McCaw went on to

establish himself as a regular on the Queensland

musical scene. After acclaimed performances in

Rent and Les Miserables, and after writing his own

musicals Becoming Bill and The Oasis, he found

his way to Broadway’s 42nd Street as the winner

of the 2013 International Cabaret Showcase.

Bendigo to Broadway features songs from

musical theatre, soul, pop, rock and country,

and performances by country musician Megan

Cooper, the Rafael Karlen Jazz Quartet and

musical theatre star Kathryn McIntrye.

Bendigo to Broadway will be a night of laughter

and heartfelt tales from one of Queensland’s

most electric performers.

PAINTED FROM MEMORY: THE MUSIC OF BACHARACH

AND COSTELLOSTARRING MICHAEL FALZON, BOBBY FOX AND SPECIAL GUEST STAR LUKE KENNEDY

In the late nineties, Burt Bacharach teamed up

with the inimitable Elvis Costello to create the

remarkable album Painted From Memory. Michael

Falzon (We Will Rock You, Hedwig and the Angry

Inch, Rock of Ages) and Bobby Fox (Jersey Boys,

The Fantastic Mr. Fox) perform a unique reimagining

of this classic album along with other memorable

Bacharach and Costello hits.

A long-time Bacharach fan, Costello recorded

several Bacharach songs including “I Just Don’t

Know What to Do with Myself” and “I’ll Never Fall

in Love Again”. These and other timeless tunes are

recreated in Painted from Memory with a nine-piece

band and special guest Luke Kennedy (The Voice,

Jesus Christ Superstar, The Ten Tenors).

“Lizzie Moore sings like a dream and delivered a beautiful performance.” STAGE WHISPERS

It was the sound of Swinging London: an explosion

of pop riding the wave of the Mersey Beat. In a

youth-driven revolution, the Brit Girls led the

charge – female singers with white boots,

miniskirts and bubbling confidence. They forged

solo paths straight down Carnaby Street and on

to the world stage.

Cool Britannia is the sound of those times and

you’ll hear Moore bring to life hits by 60s British

legends Petula Clark, Lulu, Cilla Black, Shirley

Bassey and Dusty Springfield. The show also

follows the sound to today, with songs from the

latest wave of talent inspired by the Swinging 60s

including Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele.

QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

Queen of the Night features a diverse array

of songs as Ellsmore performs unique

arrangements of everything from Mozart to

The Strokes, and from Weill to Sia. Through

arias, pop songs, power ballads, musical theatre

songs and rock-n-roll classics, Ellsmore will

reveal the dark and seamy underside of urban

life – where danger, aching hearts and heartfelt

abandon are never far away.

“Bethan Ellsmore offered the standout performance of the evening. Her individual performances crackled with intensity and I was often transfixed... She ticked all the femme fatale boxes and has the knack of flicking the switch on her sex appeal down to an artform.” XS ENTERTAINMENT

From the Backstreet Boys to the Spice Girls,

and from Bill & Ted to Romy & Michelle, the 90s

was a decade of big pants and tight dance moves.

It was also the decade that nurtured and formed

Tom Sharah, who brings his tight pants and big

dance moves to this totally bodacious night of

cabaret. With music spanning the Spice Girls,

Nirvana, Cher, Robbie Williams, Disney and

Alanis Morrisette; Tom will take you on a ride

through the decade that created him.

These guilty-pleasure songs (minus the guilt)

are intertwined with outrageous childhood stories

in Tom’s own unmistakable style. Along the way,

he’ll provide some revelatory answers to burning

questions such as “What If God Was One Of Us?”,

“What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?” and “Where

Have All The Cowboys Gone?”. It’s a radical night

of wicked hits, strong enough to make you believe

in life after love!

TEX PERKINS AND THE DARK HORSES

Tex Perkins is undeniably a standout in Australian

music. His career includes albums and tours

with Don Walker and Charlie Owen, and the TNT

project with Tim Rogers. He has also performed

as frontman for iconoclastic 90s band The

Cruel Sea, and gritty pub rockers The Beasts

of Bourbon.

With his rock, blues and ‘musician’s musician’

credentials nailed, he also went on to perform

as Johnny Cash in national tours of the theatre

production The Man in Black, which won him

critical acclaim and a new generation of fans.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see Tex and

The Dark Horses perform their compelling

new material in an intimate cabaret setting.

“Think of it – six mighty men of rock who like to roll tobacco/snares/home, each taking a back seat when they need to, practically doing a Victorian-era “After you, my good man,” when only a slide guitar is needed, or a shimmering organ or a lightly-shaken tambourine.” HERALD SUN

This new cabaret from musical theatre starlet

Rebecca Grennan delivers the Lauper hits and

plenty of laughs. Meet Sindi Lauper Gibson –

daughter of a Kingston hairdresser and a musical

theatre “wiggy”. In 1999 Sindi became a renowned

colourist in a Darlinghurst salon, and developed

an obsession for an 80s music goddess whilst

perfecting her craft. Her talent, persuasion and

persistence led her all the way to an apprenticeship

with stylist to the stars, Justin Ware, and the

opportunity to actually meet and colour the

locks of her idol…

Co-written by Troy Armstrong (The Devil

Wears Leigh Buchanan) and featuring acclaimed

musical director Peta Leigh Wilson, the show is

an irrepressible romp through the best of Lauper,

including “Time After Time”, “Girls Just Wanna

Have Fun”, “She Bop” and more.
