WELCOME

Welcome to the Queen’s Theatre, for an autumn season that’s packed with highlights! Our award-winning resident company of actor-musicians brings you a new rock ’n’ roll musical in Roll Over Beethoven; the heartfelt drama of Steel Magnolias; and Don’t Look Now, the edge-of-your-seat thriller made famous by the classic film.

A jump the Q season ticket is the cheapest and best way of seeing all three shows for as little as £37.50 – that’s just £12.50 a show. Choose between a Weekender or a Saver to enjoy a wide range of benefits and save nearly 40% on top-price tickets.

After that, our classic pantomime Aladdin will put you into the festive spirit with stirring adventures, great songs, wonderful settings, and terrible jokes.

And it that’s not enough, then turn to our guest programme – there really is something for everyone, from Elkie Brookes to Richard Digance, from jazz to swing, from ballet to Broadway. And don’t forget to check out our vibrant new programme of Saturday activities for families.

By now you’ll have heard about the exciting appointment of Douglas Rintoul as our new Artistic Director. He’ll be working with us through the autumn as we start to shape the future of the Queen’s Theatre.

We’re looking forward to seeing you again soon.

“To rock or not to rock?” That is the question!

It’s 1956 and we’re in wintry, dreary,

monochrome post-war pre-Rock ‘n’ Roll

England. But something’s about to change as

the jukebox brings colour and excitement to

Southend, Soho and Hornchurch!

Johnny Hamlet, a young national serviceman,

comes home for his father’s funeral to find that

his mother Gertie has been carrying on with

Uncle Claud. Subsequently, his father’s ghost

appears, trying to persuade him that he’s been

murdered by the pair and that Johnny should

settle the score.

Will Johnny avenge his father with murderous

intent? Or will he absorb himself in the

rock ‘n’ roll?

This new play, tailored especially for the

Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch, is based on

Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Classic rock’n’roll meets classic drama in a

world premiere production: guaranteed to have

you singing and laughing in equal measure.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS18 SEPTEMBER - 10 OCTOBER

Fragile as magnolias and as tough as steel, six

women share laughter through tears, strength

through adversity and tolerance through

friendship... whilst changing hairstyles, swapping

recipes and dealing with heartache.

Set in a Louisiana beauty salon in the 1980s,

this inspiring play shows that extraordinary

experiences exist within ordinary lives, and takes

us on a rollercoaster ride through day-to-day

conversations, emotions and the circle of life.

Beautician Truvy’s regulars include the town stalwart

M’Lynn and her fragile daughter Shelby, new-in-

town shy girl Annelle, curmudgeonly Ouiser and

former first lady Clairee. They are thrown together

in pursuit of looking their best, and they form

supportive friendships and strong bonds that will

see them through births, deaths and marriages.

When severely tested, the women show

their steel-like strength, supporting each

other as the darkest hours descend.

This heartfelt and inspiring story will make you

laugh, cry and appreciate enduring friendships.

DEADLY MURDER THE ELEPHANT MAN

BOEING! BOEING! HOT STUFF

MATT DEVITT Director

A compelling Tarantino-esque thriller with Lucy Benjamin in the pivotal role set the tone for a season of high quality productions.

The glittering New York skyline held some very dark secrets in this psychological three-hander that – with its bluffs and double bluffs, twists and turns - was always one step ahead of its audience.

Gasps, laughs and tension filled the auditorium!

This classic 1960s farce saw cut to the chase…

entertain audiences with comedy, door-

slamming and witty one-liners as playboy

Bernard juggles three air hostess fiancés in his

Paris apartment – all blissfully unaware of each

other’s existence - until a new Boeing and a

visiting friend throws out all his careful planning!

“...a good old fashioned chaotic farce, which never veers uncomfortably off course.” Nick Dines, The Stage

“It was fast-paced, high-energy and entertaining throughout.” Romford Recorder

“Saw this last night. It’s hilarious. A non- stop laugh a minute production with lots of perfectly timed entrances and door banging. Very funny and one of the best farces I have seen. The cut to the chase... team have done it again. They should be justly proud!” Audience review

“We saw Deadly Murder last night and can’t praise it highly enough. It was fabulous. Another excellent production!” Audience review

“There is meticulous attention to detail throughout, everything has been thought about, from the choice of soundtrack, the lighting, choreography and especially the staging. The goldfish bowl is a great touch, lit first in blue and then in red as events become more gruesome” UK Theatre Network review

THE SHOWS

The extraordinary and intensely moving true story of Joseph Merrick “the Elephant Man” showcased bravery and humanity that was spiritually enlightening and uplifting.

The Seventies glam rock musical Hot Stuff saw audiences digging out their dancing shoes and devil horns for an outrageous ride through the disco decades. This high energy, foot-stomping show had audiences begging for more and returning time and time again!

Nominated for an Off West End Award

cut to the chase… SPRING 2015 REVIEW

HHHHH “This is outstanding work by any standards. Strong concept, marvellous music, the director’s vision and amazing acting - all ensure a memorable two hours.” The Public Reviews

“…imaginative and compelling. The stage design is always a great feature at this theatre and it doesn’t disappoint in this production. The descent into voyeuristic darkness is very moving” Audience review

“I have been to many productions at the Queens Theatre and have never been disappointed. However I was not quite prepared for how good The Elephant Man was”Phoenix FM

“An absolute riot, replete with punchy choreography, drag queens and a nostalgic soundtrack brought to life by the Queen’s talented rep company” The Stage

“Watched this last night - it was brilliant. cut to the chase... never let an audience down, you fully deserved the standing ovation we gave you on your first preview night. It is such a fun show and I love the way we, the audience, were drawn into the fun. Thank you.” Audience review
