We went to assess the Louw/Vermeulen Family opposite Tereo School in February 2016. We are waiting on the City of Cape Town to assist us. We cannot provide them with a better house as the ground belongs to the City. We trust that we will be able to help this family that is desperately in need of better living conditions. There is an ongoing court case because the family need alternative accommodation from the City of Cape Town, should they be expected to move. The middle boy is also going to receive speech therapy.

We have asked Department Social Development to help us with the Mdungwana family in Zola. Shannon Geland is the social worker that will be assisting us with our client. She really needs help and the support of a support group.

Melissa Moses asked for our help with the Daniels family in Sandvlei. We asked our Halli Friends for help and a lot of help came in! We could help them with clothes, shoes kitchenware, linen, bedding, couch, toys, books, hardboard, futon, single bed, toaster, TV, microwave and slippers.

Halli Representative: ElSIE JACK – in Smartie Town and Macassar:

We assisted Aunt Elsie with: Household items, carpets, mirror, jerseys, clothes, dried fruit, kitchenware, toiletries, groceries, vegetables, baby clothes, bread, small knitted jerseys, bread, shoes, cupboards, stoves, oven and frozen foods.

Halli Representative: GlORIA HUNGANA - in Nomzamo, Zola, Lwandle and Poliele:

We assisted Gloria with: Carpets, 2 single beds, clothes, shoes, left over food, groceries, clothes, shoes, unmarked school clothes and bread.

Gloria helped 14 individuals during this term.

Aunt Elsie helped 4 families, 7 individual and 54 people with bread during this term.

Maduna family in Lwandle – We have decided to stop with assistance with this family as the mother is reluctant to work with us to improve their circumstances.

Halli Representative: ANASTACIA MOLAOA - in Nomzamo, Zola, Lwandle and Poliele:

Anastacia helped 48 individuals and 6 people with bread during this term.

Smartie Town activities and happenings:

We assisted Anastacia with: Carpets, bread, clothes, shoes, household items, kitchenware and files.

Gloria assisted the Nkahla family in January 2015. The 11 year old boy is still not attending any school, Adelle the social worker of Department Social Development will be meeting with the family, as the father is out of jail and actively involved with his son.

Eye Care Support with Michele Hlava

Needlework Project in Smartie Town: LOU-ELLYN PIENAAR, Helen Jonkers Needlework Representative and the needlework ladies IN SMARTIE TOWN.

To date the Smartie Town Needle work ladies were busy making the gift bags for the Christmas parties, making shopping bags, knitting beanies, bath room sets and mats.For this term they generated R660.00 with their goods.They made ponchos for themselves.

Shakira Blaauw van Tereo School went for her full eye screening test. They are doing well with the exercises and go back for follow up appointments.

ON the Tuesday 14 June 2016 a Networking meeting was held in Smartie Town. Cotlands, Womens Legal Centre, Child Welfare, City of Cape Town Social Development, Department of Education and Halli Trust attended the meeting. These meeting are aimed for the benefit of Smartie Town community. We encourage people that make a difference in Smartie Town to join the meeting that we can network and work together.

Roslyn’s Home Work Class: Toys, books, soft toys and educational toys but the home work class never came to its full aim and purpose!

We have also assisted little Ronechia 6 years old from Smartie Town. She is struggling a bit in school. We arranged for an appointment with Dr White at HH Hospital. She received a letter from him to start with speech therapy at Macassar Day Hospital. Her mother needs to apply for her to go to Rusthof School in Somerset West.

Networking with other NPO’s, individuals and Churches in SMARTIE TOWN.

Ollie Basson and Tinkie Baartman Substance Abuse Representatives in SMARTIE TOWN.

Niesie Baartman was booked into a rehab facility but unfortunately she only stayed for 2 weeks.

Andrew also wanted us to help him and we bought him a wheelbarrow, spade and a broom. He is now cleaning the streets and encourages other young people to also do something, seeing that they are all unemployed. We reward him with groceries. We always re-assess every situation and decided that he will not continue with the project as he is not a good example for the community.

Tamia is also busy with the outpatient rehab program at HELP ME.

We had a Substance abuse talk in Smartie Town on Thursday 19 May 2016. Chris Valentine talked about his life and experiences. 40 people attended the meeting.

Hearing Support with Rene Visagie and Dr Leon NelKano Jacobs 13 years from Smartie Town went for a hearing test at Rene Visage and Dr Leon Nel cleaned his ears. He went for a follow up hearing test and Dr Nel arranged for a full scan at Cure Day Hospital. Dr Nel arranged for Kano to see Dr Estie Meyer at Groote Schuur Hospital where further test was done. She referred Kano to Khayelitsha Hospital where he will receive his hearing aids.Kano is currently in Rusthof school because of his mental disability and we have arranged with Aanhouwen to take him in when he is 17 years old.

We had a Prayer Walk on Sunday 3 April 2016 in Smartie Town. It was a blessed event. We plan to have more prayer walks later in the year.

Educational Involvement, Events and Projects

We had a Halli Visit at Tereo School on Thursday 7 April 2016. There were about 68 children between 6 years to 15 years. We handed out the left over Marcels frozen yoghurt suckers and goody bags to the children.We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

We had a Halli Clean-up Project in Smartie Town on Monday 4 April 2016. There were about 400 children. Big Thank you to Marcels for the 420 frozen yoghurt suckers and the City of Cape Town for the bags. The children also received a goody bag from Halli Trust.

We had the ID Truck in Smartie Town on Monday 4 April 2016.Lots of residents applied for ID documents and birth registrations.

We had a Halli Visit at Parkdene Primary on Wednesday 6 April 2016. There were about 667 children between Grade 1 - 3. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

We had a Halli Trust Indigo Spur Fundraising Event on Thursday 5 May 2016.

We had a Halli Visit at Simonsberg Primary School on Wednesday 20 April 2016. There were about 119 Grade R children. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at The Dream Tree School for Autism on Thursday 14 April 2016. There were about 14 children between 5 years to 14 years. We did the ROAD SAFTEY TALK.

Annique Business Opportunity on Sunday 10 April 2016 in Zola. 5 Ladies joined Annique as consultants.

We had a Halli Visit at Hillcrest Primary on Wednesday 13 April 2016. There were about 180 children between 7 years to 13 years. We did the LOVE RESPECT AND BULLY TALK.

Halli Trust had a stall at the Lourensford Evening Market on Friday 15 April 2016.

We had a Halli Visit at Woelwaters on Thursday 21 April 2016. There were about 33 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the TO BE PROUD TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at Emiley’s Play School on Thursday 28 April 2016. There were about 70 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

Halli Trust had a stall at the Strand Jetty Market on Saturday 30 April 2016.

Halli Trust attended the AGM of Helderberg Omgee on Tuesday 2 May 2016.

We had a Halli Visit at The Valley Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Wednesday 4 May 2016. There were about 124 children between Grade R - 3. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at Vissershok Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Thursday 19 May 2016. There were about 336 children between Grade R - 3. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

Halli Trust took water for the Zola community on Tuesday 10 May 2016 with the help of Helderberg Omgee.

Halli Trust attended a Rotary Breakfast event at the Lord Charles Hotel as a guest of Natalie Naude from Adviceworx on Thursday 12 May 2016.

Pneumatix did a show for the Smartie Town children on Friday 13 May and 4 teachers started with dance classes on Saturday 14 May 2016 in Smartie Town.

We had a Halli Visit at ACVV Speelkasteel on Wednesday 18 May 2016. There were about 80 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

Halli Trust had a Substance Abuse Talk in Smartie Town on Thursday 19 May. 40 Young people attended the evening. Chris Valentine talked about his life and sharing his experiences with substance abuse.

We had a Halli Visit at Woelwater on Wednesday 25 May 2016. There were about 40 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the HEALTHY EATING TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at COTLANDS WORLD PLAY DAY on Thursday 26 May 2016. There were about 185 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at The Valley Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Wednesday 1 June 2016. There were about 121 children between Grade R - 3. We did the RESPECT LOVE AND BULLY TALK.

Rehabilitation and Caring of Animals

Volunteers

Plans for the 3 nd Term:

We had 21 Halli Visits this term. We spoke to 3798 children. 9 Halli Visits was the PATCH BODY PREVENTIVE TALK, 1810 Children.We had 10 Halli Events this term. We had 2 Halli Project this term.

- We provided food to 3 families, for feeding 7 dogs.- We took 3 dogs for sterilization at the Strand Animal Hospital.- We rescued 2 adult female dogs with 6 puppies.- Smartie’s daughter, Lizzy, also joined my family. See loves being with her mom and likes to sleep

under the blankets at night.- We found a new home for one Jack Russel, Luna. She was adopted by a lady in Tableview and is

being spoilt a lot, as she is the only dog at home.

Jessica Hattingh and Katherine Horn Grade 12 from Paarlvalei High School did 6 hours volunteer work for Halli Trust at the Clean-up Project event.Daniel Erasmus Grade 12 from Hottentots High School did 6 hours volunteer work for Halli Trust.Emile Gouws Grade 12 from Paarlvalei High School did 6 hours volunteer work for Halli Trust.Siphomandla Hungana working in the stores.Marvin Nicodemus from Elsies River started on in May as an admin assistant in the Halli Trust office.Sinenjongo Silele from Nonzamo started volunteering as our Halli Trust mascot in May.Caroline Ambrose from Macassar started to volunteer in Smartie Town in May to help us with social work.Bokang Molaoa from Rusthof High School did 6 hours volunteer work for Halli Trust.Joy Groenewald from University of Stellenbosch joined our volunteer team.

We expect all volunteers to complete our volunteer expectancy form, bring a copy of their ID and do a Name Clearance at the Police Station. Please contact us if you want to become a volunteer.

3 rd Term: July – September:

Monday 18 – Friday 22 July – PROUD2B ME parenting programme in Zola for 20 ladies.Monday 18 July - We will be handing out beanies again for Madiba Day.

If you can knit beanies please let us know we need as many as we can get!Thursday 21 July - Informative Talk about Substance Abuse in Smartie Town.Tuesday 26 July - Indigo Spur Fundraising Event.Wednesday 27 July – 50 children from Smartie Town to Zip Zap Circus.Saturday 3 September - My School Drive at Woolworths in Somerset Mall.Monday 5 September – Network meeting in Smartie Town.

We had a Halli Visit at Attie van Wyk Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Thursday 2 June 2016. There were about 139 children between Grade R - 3. We did the RESPECT LOVE AND BULLY TALK.

We had a Halli Trust visited Pikkewouters on Friday 3 June 2016. There were about 116 children between 3 – 6 years. We received toiletries donations from the school as part of their annual caring month. We danced with the children.

We had a Halli Visit at Blue Mountains Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Wednesday 8 June 2016. There were about 220 children between Grade R - 3. We did the RESPECT LOVE AND BULLY TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at Vissershok Primary School for Western Cape Education Department on Thursday 9 June 2016. There were about 177 children between Grade R - 3. We did the RESPECT LOVE AND BULLY TALK.

Halli Trust attended the AGM of Helderberg Uitreik on Monday 13 June 2016.

We had a Halli Visit at Op die Plaas School on Wednesday 15 June 2016. There were about 58 children between 3 – 6 years. We did the RESPECT LOVE AND BULLY TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at Jelly Babies on Wednesday 22 June 2016. There were about 30 children between 2 – 5 years. We did the CHILD SAFETY TALK.

We had a Halli Visit at Hendrik Louw on Thursday 23 June 2016. There were about 164 children between Grade RR and R. We did the BODY PREVENTIVE TALK.

Halli Trust had a Representative Meeting on Monday 27 June 2016.

We had a Halli Visit at Smartie Town on Wednesday 29 June 2016. There were about 400 children. We did the RESPECT AND MAKING GOOD CHOICES TALK.

We are in need of : Tents, gazebo’s, groundcovers, guest artists, DJ’s, tags, toiletries, stationary, soft toys, food, sweets, chips, cold drinks, cold drink suckers, ice cream, biscuits or anything special to add to the gift or food parcels.

Please let us know if you are able to assist us in any way .These are big events and we need lots of support! Thank you so much!

Tuesday 6 December – Network meeting in Smartie Town.Friday 16 December - We plan to give Christmas Groceries Blessing Gifts for families in need before Christmas. During the term - We plan to do a Halli Bracelet fundraising event with schools to help them and Halli Trust raise funds. Please contact us if you are interested.
