The Grimaldi Group sets the bar high on Corporate Social Responsibility
Corporate Social Responsibility is a fashionable term that, in simple words, means maintaining high standards both in terms of profes-
sional conduct and compliance with regulations, whether they be global or local. Our Group seeks not only to comply but to go further than the statutory minimum by actively taking measures to reduce our environmental foot-print, to help those in need via charitable work, to heavily invest in educa-tion and training, and to support cultural activities in the markets we serve.Efforts to reduce harmful emissions, a Group top priority, took a major step forward in the last few weeks, when we announced the signing of an agree-ment to build twelve ‘hybrid’ ro-ro vessels in China. This US$800 million investment will give us some of the most environmen-tally sound ships trading. They will boast double the loading capacity of the previous generation while consuming the same quantity of fuel at the same speed: that’s a 100% increase in fuel efficiency. Thanks to the electricity generated by huge on-board lithium batteries, charged during navigation with the aid of solar panels, these vessels will not use any fossil fuel while in port. Bubble-layers under the hull will reduce friction, while non-toxic silicon paint will prevent substances from being released into the sea. Those of you who have read our annual Group sustainability report will know that we monitor our CO2 emissions closely, and take pride in the reductions achieved. As the result of our fuel efficiency investments, CO2 emissions per nautical mile dropped by more than 6% in 2016 and the same is expected in 2017. Similar reductions were achieved in sulphur emissions. With the price of oil moving upwards once again, fuel efficiency will also contribute to the Group’s bottom line.Ship-lengthening is another way of moving more cargo (and passengers) per tonne-kilometre. In March, we announced that the cruise-ferries Cruise Roma and Cruise Barcelona will be lengthened by around 30 metres, meaning they will enjoy a total capacity for 3,500 passengers and 3,700 linear metres of rolling cargo on their Civitavecchia-Porto Torres-Barcelona route. Our northern European sister company, Finnlines, is also undergoing an extensive ship-lengthening programme involving six units. On the over hand, the Grimaldi Foundation turned ten in 2017. Founded by the Grimaldi family, it has sofar spent € 5.4 million in 126 different projects both in Italy and abroad, thanks to the donations of the Grimaldi fam-ily members and to the yearly infusions of 1% of the Group’s net profits, meaning it now has a patrimony of more than Euro 20 million, allowing us to contribute to scores of projects. One of the Foundation’s main goals is the welfare of those Group em-ployees in need, as well as their families. Significant disbursements have already taken place, benefiting individuals and families in need.We are guided in our efforts to trade sustainably by the United Nations ‘development goals’ set down in 2015. These include the eradication of poverty, quality education, access to water and sanitation, as well as ac-cess to affordable, reliable energy. We cannot change the world, but we are determined to do our part by set-ting the bar high and by measuring, using key performance indicators, how far we have come towards meeting our goals.

In the framework of the expansion and modernisation programme of its owned fleet, the Grimaldi Group has
signed on the 26th of April an agreement for the construction of six ro/ro vessels, followed by a second agreement signed on the 23rd of May for another six units. The total investment is worth about USD 800 million. The order was awarded to the Chinese shipyard Jinling, thus con-solidating an important partnership with the Group. The new vessels, whose delivery is ex-pected from 2020 to 2022, will have a length of 238 metres, a beam of 34 me-tres and a gross tonnage of 64,000 tonnes. They will be able to transport over 7,800 linear metres of rolling units, equivalent to about 500 trailers. Their loading ca-pacity will be double compared to the one of the largest ships currently oper-ated by the Group and triple compared to the previous generation of ro/ro ships. At the same speed they will consume the same quantity of fuel, meaning a 100% increase in efficiency when measured in terms of consumption/ton of freight transported. The design of the new buildings, called
“Grimaldi Green 5th Generation” (GG5G), was developed by the Technical and En-ergy Saving Department of the Grimaldi Group together with the Nordic Engi-neering Design house Knud E. Hansen and it incorporates innovative elements, partly already patented and protected by copyright. These are the first examples of a new series of hybrid ro/ro vessels, which
will use fossil fuel during navigation and electricity while in port, thus guarantee-ing “zero emissions in port”. The ves-sels will, in fact, be equipped with mega lithium batteries which will allow them to satisfy the energy requirements while at berth. These batteries will be recharged during navigation, through shaft genera-tors adding the so-called peak shaving system, and with the aid of 600 m² of solar panels. The other main technical innovation of these ships is the air lubrication system under the keel creating bubble layers which will reduce friction and hydrody-namic resistance and consequently the emissions deriving from fuel consump-tion.The vessels’ hull will also be covered with special no-toxic silicon paints char-acterized by low surface roughness which will reduce friction with the sea and does not release any substances into the water. As far as sulphur emissions are con-cerned, special on-board devices will combine the sulphur released by the
propulsive cylinders with the salt con-tained in sea water, exploiting its natural chemical reaction, producing gypsum, which can be reused on the ground or disposed of in nature.Nine of the ships will be operated by Gri-maldi Lines in the Mediterranean while the remaining three, which will be ice-class, will be purchased by the Group’s sister company Finnlines and deployed in the North and Baltic Sea.
“Reducing fuel consumption and, conse-quently, cutting harmful emissions are categorical imperatives for our Group”, proudly said President Gianluca Gri-maldi, at the helm of the Group together with the Managing Directors Emanuele Grimaldi and Diego Pacella. “It is the first time in the world that such powerful batteries, equivalent to those equipping 90 Tesla cars, will be installed on ships”, continues Diego Pacella. “We are proud that these exceptional technologies on board will make the GG5G hybrid ro/ro the most innovative and efficient vessels in the world”, concludes Emanuele Gri-maldi.

After the signing of the letter of in-
tent on March 5, Fincantieri and
the Grimaldi Group proceeded
with the signature of a contract for the
lengthening and refurbishment program
for the cruise ferries “Cruise Roma” and
“Cruise Barcelona”. The construction of
the two mid-body sections will begin in
2018, while the completion of the works
at Palermo shipyard is foreseen within
summer 2019.
The two vessels, currently in service
on the daily Civitavecchia-Porto Tor-
res-Barcelona route with the “Grimaldi
Lines” livery, have been built by Fincan-
tieri shipyard in Castellammare di Stabia
and delivered to the Group in 2007 and
2008 respectively. They are 225 meters
long, having a gross tonnage of 54,000
tons and capacity of transporting about
3,000 passengers, a 2,400 square meters
car deck and approx. 3,000 linear meters
for heavy vehicles.
About 600 additional linear meters for
heavy vehicles, 80 sleeping accommo-
dations in new passenger cabins, two
new public spaces with a total capacity
of 450 Pullman beds and a new “Family
self-service” restaurant having about 270

seats, will be placed in the lengthening
section, about 29 meters long. Further-
more important refurbishment works on
the existing public areas will also be car-
ried out, including the creation of a theme
restaurant. Finally, safety equipment of
the ship will be implemented in order to
manage the increased passenger trans-
port capacity.
At the end of the lengthening programme,
to be carried out by Fincantieri’s Ship
Repair and Conversion, part of the Ser-
vices division, each ship will be about
254 meters long, having a gross tonnage
of about 63,000 tons and being able to
transport 3,500 passengers, with a 3,000
square meters car deck and over 3,700
linear meters for heavy vehicles.
From a technological point of view cut-
ting-edge solutions aimed at reducing
the environmental impact and energy
saving will be taken, such as the scrub-
ber system for the exhaust gas cleaning
as well as a system to power the ship dur-
ing the turnaround time in ports, based
on mega-lithium batteries, in order to
avoid the use of the diesel-powered
generators, achieving the goal of zero
port emissions, pursued by the Grimaldi
Group.
The relationship between Fincantieri,
one of the world’s largest shipbuilding
groups and number one by diversifica-
tion and innovation, and the Grimaldi
Group has always been close. The Tri-
este-headquartered shipyard has built
in the past 30 different types of vessels
for the Neapolitan group. Today Fincan-
tieri is leader in cruise ship design and
construction and a reference player in all
high-tech shipbuilding industry’s sectors,
the Group has built more than 7,000 ves-
sels in over 230 years of maritime his-
tory. With more than 19,500 employees,
of whom more than 8,300 in Italy, 20
shipyards in 4 continents, today Fincan-
tieri is the leading Western shipbuilder.
It has among its clients the major cruise
operators, the Italian and the U.S. Navy, in
addition to several foreign navies, and it
is partner of some of the main European
defense companies within supranational
programmes.
Moving to the Baltic and North Sea, Gri-
maldi sister company Finnlines too is
continuing its lengthening programme.
After the completion of the works on the
vessels MS Finntide and MS Finnwave, it
has recently decided to lengthen two ad-
ditional units within its 70 million Euro
Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduc-
tion Investment Programme.
By the end of May 2018, a further two
vessels, MS Finnsky and MS Finnsun, will
be lengthened at Remontowa Shiprepair
Yard in Poland, whilst MS Finnbreeze and
MS Finnsea will be carried out in Sep-
tember–December 2018.
After the modification each lengthened
vessel will be 217.7 metres long and have
a capacity of around 4,200 lane metres
of rolling cargo, meaning a capacity in-
crease of 30%.
“These two lengthened vessels, in addition
to the previous four, will help us meet in-
creased demand and enable us to serve
our customers more efficiently”, says Tom
Pippingsköld, CFO of Finnlines. “One of
our strategic decisions is to focus on im-
proving our operational performance, in
order to increase competitiveness and
improve efficiency of capital employed
on our fleet. This investment is also in line
with sustainable development: by further
increasing our energy efficiency we will
contribute to reduce emissions per trans-
ported tonne”.

niece of the current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Attending the event was a distinguished delegation composed of civil and maritime authorities, customers, port operators, managers of the Grimaldi Group and of its daughter company At-lantic Container Line. During the cere-mony of the Grande New York Costantino Baldissara, Commercial, Logistics & Op-erations Director of the Grimaldi Group, gave a special thanks to the Italian Con-sul General, Francesco Genuardi, the New York and New Jersey Port Authority Deputy Director, Andy Saporito, and the FAPS President, August LoBue, for their participation. Then followed the ceremony of chris-tening of the Grande Halifax which took place in Halifax on the 16th of May. God-mother of the newbuidling was Ms. Karen Oldfield, President and CEO of the Hali-fax Port Authority. Here too, a delegation of civil and maritime authorities, among which the mayor of Halifax Michael Sav-age, Members of the Canadian Parlia-ment, the Honorary Consul of Italy in Hal-ifax Marilisa Benigno, customers, port operators, Grimaldi and ACL managers attended the event. During the event, Costantino Baldissara, praised the over 40-year relationship between the Group and the port of Halifax and illustrated the characteristics of the newbuilding. Both Pure Car & Truck Carriers are deployed on the Mediterranean-North America weekly service operated by the Group, with another three vessels, among which their sistership Grande
Baltimora.
The three sisterships have a length of
199,90 meters, a width of 32.26 meters,
a gross tonnage of 63,000 tonnes and
a cruising speed of 19 knots. Italian-
flagged, the units can carry 6,700 CEU
(Car Equivalent Units) or alternatively
4,000 linear meters of rolling freight and
2,500 CEU; equipped with four hoistable
decks which make them extremely flex-
ible vessels, able to transport any type of
rolling cargo (cars, vans, trucks, tractors,
buses, excavators, etc.) up to 5.2 meters
high. In addition, the vessels have two
access ramps, a side ramp and a quarter
stern ramp, the latter allowing the load-
ing of freight units with a weight up to
150 tons. The configuration of the vari-
ous decks and the system for the internal
ramps reduce to the minimum the risk
of damage during the loading/unloading
operations.
From an environmental point of view,
both new sister vessels are highly per-
forming ships. They are fitted with an
electronically-controlled (Man Diesel &
Turbo) main engine that allows to com-
ply with the new regulations for reduc-
ing NOx emissions, while the installed
scrubber reduces sulfur oxide (SOx)
emissions. Moreover, they are equipped
with a ballast water treatment unit which
will allow her to meet the future interna-
tional regulations.

The Grimaldi Group, in cooperation with the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Harbour System Authority, has re-
cently reorganized its presence in the port of Salerno with the aim to better manage the increasing traffic of trailers. For this purpose, a new parking area for trailers at about 15 km from the port is now available to the customers of the Group, thus allowing to decongest the operational areas inside the port and re-duce to less than 24 hours the presence in the port of trailers that disembark eve-ry day from the Grimaldi Group’s ships.Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Group, stated that “the Group is determinated to invest in the construction of a multi-storey structure in the port of Salerno, aimed at making structural a bet-ter organization of port space”.
“This is a necessary step to continue to en-sure the sustainable development of traf-fic in the port of Salerno“, declared the President of the Port Pietro Spirito.
The port of Salerno is served through Grimaldi direct maritime links to and from the Northern Europe, the Near East, North America, Mexico and West Africa, dedicated to the transport of rolling car-go, containers and project cargo; further-more, it is served from an extensive net-work of Motorways of the Sea dedicated to the transport of passengers and rolling cargo. In addition, it is connected in tran-shipment with over 130 ports in the Medi-
terranean, South America and the Baltic
Sea. Finally, the Group owns two port ter-
minal companies, Salerno Autoterminal
(S.A.T.) and Grimaldi Euromed S.C.P.A.,
which operate on a total surface of 90,000
square metres and which manage a traf-
fic of new cars and trailers.
During 2017, the Grimaldi f leet ships
made over 1,200 calls at the port of
Salerno.

On the 14th of February at Villa Niscemi in Palermo, the Mayor of the city Leoluca Orlando gave the honorary citi-
zenship to Eugenio Grimaldi, son of Emanuele Grimaldi and Iliana Iasiello. The motivation was “Eugenio’s important contri-bution to the growth and recovery of the territory and the port together with the equestrian activity that gave many successes”.During the ceremony Mayor Orlando also remembered the international activity of the Group and the commitment of Eu-genio Grimaldi in linking the sicilian ports with Italy, Greece, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia and Malta thanks to over 120 motor-ways of the sea.In particular, Leoluca Orlando remembered the Group’s begin-ning of maritime activities in Sicily which started in 1970 with the connection between Palermo and Genoa with the two revo-
lutionary ships “Freccia Rossa” and “Freccia Blu”, underlying that in recent years, thanks to the entrepreneur, the expan-sion of services to and from the port of Palermo have been fur-ther enhanced.Eugenio Grimaldi's emotional bond with Palermo also goes through sport: the Mayor has placed his attention on equestrian sporting activities "object of many national and international successes and recognitions, which has seen Eugenio repeatedly engaged in the recovered equestrian structure of the park of La Favorita”.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSABILITY
In 2017 the Grimaldi Foundation turned
10 years old. Since its birth back in
2007, spurred and financed by the
Grimaldi family, the Foundation has
gathered a patrimony of € 22.3 million
earmarked for solidarity actions and has
spent € 5.4 million to activate 150 pro-
jects. This has been possible thanks to
the granting to the foundation, over the
last four years, of 1% of the Grimaldi
Group’s net income to this aim and to
donation from Grimaldi family members.
Throughout its existence, the Grimaldi
Foundation has focused its projects
prioritarily on the relief of seamen and
employees of the Grimaldi f leet and
their families, in difficulties for injuries
and health problems. The first projects
implemented by the Foundation were of
this type and still today this is the most
rooted type of action, with 40 actions ac-
tivated in ten years and financial assis-
tance worth € 860,000 provided.
2017 was the year where more initia-
tives were activated in this field with 22
projects open simultaneously in favour
of Grimaldi Group employees and their
families all around the world.
Human resources are the key to the
success of the Grimaldi Group. Besides
taking maximum care of people on job
formation, safety and security standards,
the Grimaldi family wished to be near
to those who suffered more and need
care. The Grimaldi Foundation is there
for them.
Besides projects dealing with seafarers
and colleagues, the Grimaldi Foundation
finances projects in the field of children
care, assistance to elderly and disabled
people, health and educational pro-
grammes in troubled communities and
economies in Southern Italy and all over
the world. In this respect, the foundation
has initiated in the course of 2018 an am-
bitious project in favour of disadvan-
taged families and their children in the
city of Naples.

As part of the programme for the celebrations of the cente-nary of Finland’s independence in 2017, Finnlines project
“Together across the Baltic” challenged its own personnel and Star Class passengers to collect as many nautical miles as Finn-lines ro-pax vessel plyed on over 70 trips between Helsinki and Travemünde. In return for the 79,240 kilometres collected, Finnlines supported childhood cancer research by donating € 50,000 to the Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation at MATKA 2018 fair.
The purpose of the Aamu Pediatric Cancer Foundation is to guar-antee, even on an international level, the best possible treatment and healthy adulthood to Finnish children who have suffered from cancer. Clinical researches and the development of cancer treatments is sponsored by the foundation funds.Finnlines’ donation helps Aamu Foundation to be part of a new worldwide research programme concentrating on the develop-ment of children’s hepatic cancer treatments (Paediatric Hepatic International Tumor Trial, PHITT).
The Grimaldi Group becomes an active part in the protection and enhance-
ment of the Neapolitan artistic heritage: recently, € 440,000 were allocated by the Group to finance the restoration of the façade of the Basilica of the Incoronata Madre del Buon Consiglio e Regina della Cattolica Chiesa, situated in Naples. The restoration project was presented at a press conference last October at the Basilica dell’Incoronata Madre del Buon Consiglio with the presence of Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Archbishop of Naples. The reconstruction works, which started last April, will last about two years, and will affect the north facade of the church.
“The Basilica of the Incoronata Madre del Buon Consiglio is one of the most impor-tant monuments of Naples and a symbol for the Neapolitan people”, said Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Group.
“Our group which already contributes to
the development of Naples in different
ways by giving work to thousands of citi-
zens, supporting commercial traffic and
enhancing the maritime tradition of the
city, carrying out many charitable works
through the Grimaldi Foundation, did not
want to lose this opportunity to make a
further contribution to the enhancement
of the artistic heritage of our city “, Mr. Gri-
maldi concluded.

M inoan Lines has recently supported the European Karate Champion Kelly Kydonaki: the 17-year-old Greek female athlete, with her will and love for
Karate, managed to gain the Gold Medal in the “Junior/Young Women” category
at the Karate European Championship held in Sochi, Russia, last February.
On the 6th of March a short ceremony was held in her honor at the company’s
Headquarters in Heraklion (Crete), in the presence of the Managing Director,
Antonis Maniadakis, the whole personnel, Kelly’s family and her coach.
Minoan Lines has supported the European Champion in Karate by offering free
transportation from Heraklion to Piraeus and with a donation for her training
expenses for 2018/19.

On the 11th of March, at the port of Civitavecchia a complicated firefighting and anti-pollution
exercise was held on board m/vessel “Cruise Ro-ma”, which involved all the subjects operating in the port. The drill, not included in the "scheduled" simula-tions, was organized with minimum notice to test the effectiveness and validity of the emergency procedures, as well as the relative initial response mechanism and the subsequent management of the event. At 23,00 hours, on board the m/vessel “Cruise Ro-ma” berthed at the port of Civitavecchia, a simu-lated huge spill of fuel gave rise to a fire, with several injuries. Coordinated by the Coast Guard Opera-tions Room and the Technical Section, the rescue team was composed by a Firefighter brigade, the Financial Police, the pilotage, towage and mooring services, as well as the local Port Authority. The exercise highlighted the brilliant and profes-sional collaboration of all units, as well as the ef-fective response of the crew of the vessel. These exercises are fundamental tools to maintain the high standards of the entire port facility and ensure the daily safety of the numerous passengers such as all those who work to ensure the operation of the port.
Last January the units par-ticipating at the Africa Eco
Race were shipped on board the “Repubblica del Brasile”, which is deployed on the MEX service linking the Mediterrane-an to West Africa, from Dakar to Marseilles. A total of 139 units, among which trucks and other vehicles, were loaded in Dakar on the 16th of January and unloaded in the French port on the 24th of the same month. The 10th edition of the Africa Eco Race officially ended on Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Senegal. Competitors travelled more than 6,000 kilometers through Moroc-co, Mauritania and Senegal.
Three ambulances to Senegal
Last March three ambulanc-es donated to Senegal were
embarked on board the m/ves-
sel “Repubblica del Brasile”, de-
ployed on the MEX service link-
ing the Mediterranean to West
Africa. The whole operation was
coordinated by the Honorary
Consul of the Republic of Sen-
egal in Livorno Andrea Ermini,
and finalized by the local asso-
ciation "Four For Africa". These
vehicles had as destination the
municipalities of Malika, Thies
Nord and Sadio.
