Quality Wind Project description

Approximately 142 megawatt (MW) project near Highway 52

Vestas will supply and commission 79 1.8 MW wind turbines – 44 model V100 and 35 model V90

Limited environmental impacts – half of the project area has previous impacts from oil/gas activity, forestry logging, roads and a forest fire

Includes project substation and a 230 kV, 22 km overhead transmission line to Tumbler Ridge substation

Environment

Quarterly reports submitted to B.C. Environmental Assessment Office

Consulting firms ensure adherence to regulations: Hemmera (Environment), AMEC Arcas (Archeology), TECO (Forestry)

Traditional land use (TLU) and ecological knowledge (TEK) sites identified during EA process and incorporated into project design; steps taken to avoid these highly valued sites

Additional mitigation for road embankments, watercourse and wetland setbacks, use of existing roads and trails (to reduce footprint), and construction scheduled during “least risk” timing windows for wildlife

Palaeontological / archeological “chance encounter” procedures in place

“The cooperation between the museum and Capital Power has produced a result that serves as a nearly ideal example of how palaeontological heritage interests and industry can be accommodated in this province.” – Rich McCrea, Curator of Palaeontology at the PRPRC, November 2010
