In order to better understand their daily challengesand how they view Quality of Life in the workplace,

we interviewed more than 4,800 small business leaders*in 7 countries (Brazil, Chile, France, India, Mexico,

Romania and Turkey).

Our survey results unveil key levers SMEs can use to boost performance while improving employee Quality of Life.

INVESTING IN QUALITY OF LIFE IS TRENDING AMONG SMEs, TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE

SMEs invest in a range of Quality of Life measures, with equipment, work space and events topping the list. SMEs 2-year plans reveal significant increase in bonuses/gift vouchers, health insurance, improving employees’ work-life balance and helping them stay fit.

Brazil is unique in that it has the highest proportion of "Scouts", who are very convinced of the impact

that Quality of Life’s has on performance, and the lowest of proportion of "Defiants",

who are the least convinced.

In Brazil, 97% of SMEs have already implemented Quality of Life measures and the country has an

extremely high level of intention to continue this investment in the coming years.

Moreover, more than 90% have seen a positive impact on their business.

Business leaders already invested, mainly in improving the working environment. They also claim very high intentions to invest in the future.

Events and parties are the most popular measure (80%), followed by equipment (77%) and workspace (68%).

Brazilian SMEs have huge growth plans for rewards (+26), purchasing power (+25) and careers (+36); health insurance and food are also on the rise.

Although 85% of SMEs in Chile recognize the positive impact that Quality of Life measures, 64% do not offer any benefits to their employees. As a result, the country falls among the lowest in

terms of employer attractiveness.

But as business leaders look to the future, they agree that increasing Quality of Life initiatives leads to a rise in productivity, SME attractiveness,

and recruitment. Today, 99% have implemented at least one measure and 75% will introduce

at least one more in coming years.

Corporate events and parties are by far the most popularmeasure for Quality of Life (79%).

After equipment and a pleasant workspace, safety scores highly: 64%.

But equipment and workspace will overtake events/parties in two years.

REWARDS DELIVER BEST RESPONSE FROM SME LEADERSSME leaders say that introducing a reward system delivers the biggest benefits in terms of productivity gains. More than half reported that financial turnover also increased. Actions focused on helping employees manage their personal lives came in second, followed by purchasing power, also scoring highly, and access to a healthy diet.

More than 80% of French SMEs see the positive impact of Quality of Life measures on their business performance. Nearly all (99%) have

previously made an investment in Quality of Life and 69% plan to do so in the coming years.

France represents the highest number of SME leaders who are convinced of Quality of Life

benefits as well as the second lowest number of “Defiant,” least convinced, leaders overall in the

survey. While SMEs outperform big firms in variety and atmosphere, they see fewer gains in turnover,

recruitment, absenteeism and reputation.

the survey average. Retention is an issue for 77% of managers, 20+ points above average.

While nearly 100% see the positive impact of Quality of Life on their business and 85% have invested

in at least one Quality of Life measure, only 29% plan to make this investment in the coming years.

In addition, 49% do not plan to offer employee benefits and only 26% currently organize events or parties,

Although Turkish SMEs implement fewer Quality of Life actions than other countries (on average 3.8 vs. 5.2), food/balanced diet actions are much more widely implemented here than in all other survey countries.

With 73% in the "Defiant" category, Turkey has by far the largest group of SME leaders who do not recognize

the impact of Quality of Life on performance.

Yet, 75% have implemented at least one measure, and more than 90% of those who did so noticed

improvements in atmosphere and productivity!
