Quality is not destination, it is a continuous journey. Quality means doing the right things right. Quality has now become the key word in higher education. Today, enhancing and sustaining quality is the biggest challenge before the higher educational system. Quality of higher education is a multi-dimensional concept. It lies in effectiveness of transmitting knowledge and skill; the authenticity, content, coverage and depth of information; availability of reading/teaching materials; help in removing obstacles to learning; applicability of knowledge in solving the real life problems; fruitfulness of knowledge in personal and social domains; convergence of content and variety of knowledge over space (countries and regions) and different sections of the people; cost-effectiveness and administrative efficiency. Information technology has progressed very fast in the last three decades producing equipment at affordable cost and making their wider application feasible. It has made search, gathering, dissemination, storing, retrieval, transmission and reception of knowledge easier, cheaper and faster, thereby making it a decisive factor in quality enhancement. In ensuring and sustaining quality the role of teachers is very crucial. They are the most important part of qualitative education. The administration based on the principle of cooperation and understanding among the stakeholders usher in achieving the quality enhancement and sustenance of teaching and learning in the educational institution. The role of technology and funding agencies are equally important. In the entire process guidance as well as coordination is provided by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college as the catalytic agent. The organizers intend to stimulate discussion on various aspects of ensuring quality and bring together different perspectives of quality issues and provide a platform of dynamic interaction between academic experts, scholars and administrators representing different higher educational institutions.
