WHAT IS NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY?

IN THE 20TH CENTURY, NEW MEDIA WAS DISCOVERED ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY WHICH OPENED A LOT OF DOORS FOR INTERNET EXPLORER’S TO INTERACT. NEW MEDIA IS USUALLY A WAY YOU CAN TRANSFER INFORMATION USING DIGITAL TECHNIQUES. FROM THE START, SINCE THE COMPUTER WAS INTRODUCED IT LED TO THE WORLD WIDE WEB, SURFING THE WEB ON DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL NETWORKING; FACEBOOK, TWITTER, MYSPACE ETC. THE MOST PREDOMINANT EXAMPLE OF NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGY RIGHT NOW ARE THE SMARTPHONES BUT CAN ADD NEW LAPTOPS WITH CD ROMS, DVD PLAYERS, MP3 PLAYERS AND TABLETS.

WHICH NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES DID I USE THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF THIS PROJECT?

THROUGHOUT THE COURSE I HAVE COME ACROSS NUMEROUS TECHNOLOGIES IN ORDER TO COMPLETE MY WORK TO A GOOD STANDARD WITH SOME PRESENTATION AS THAT WHAT WOULD APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE. I HAVE USED MOST OF THEM IN THE PAST HOWEVER, THERE WERE SOME I HAVEN’T USED BEFORE OR I’M NOT SO FAMILIAR WITH THEM LIKE PHOTOSHOP. TAKING ON THE ROLE OF A DIRECTOR ALLOWED ME TO USE VARIOUS MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES AND BE ABLE TO JOIN IN WITH THE OTHER ROLES SUCH AS THE CAMERA PERSON AND THEY’RE EQUIPMENT BUT ALSO THE EDITOR AS THE SOUND AND SOME EDITING SHOTS I CHOSE BECAUSE I THOUGHT MY IDEA SHOULD BE PORTRAYED CORRECTLY.

YOUTUBEYOUTUBE HAS BEEN USED THROUGHOUT THIS WHOLE PRODUCTION FROM START TO FINISH AS IT IS SEEN AS A NECCESSITY BY THE AUDIENCE BECAUSE IT ALLOWS US TO VIEW THINGS WORLD WIDE. THIS IS WHY IT IS AN EFFECTIVE TOOL.FOR EXAMPLE, I USED IT WHEN I WAS RESEARCHING AND PLANNING OTHER SHORT FILMS AND NOTICE THE GAP IN THE MARKET. FOR MY PRODUCTION TO BE A SUCCESS I SAW FILMS THAT COULD INSPIRE ME. IT ALSO AIDED ME AS I CHOSE A GENRE THAT WOULD BE SUITABLE AND ALSO CODES AND CONVENTIONS WHICH WERE CHOSEN APPROPRIATELY. I SAW SOME FUNNY ASPECTS WHICH I PORTRAYED IN MY PRODUCTION AND ALSO WHEN THE STEREOTYPICAL VIEWS TAKE PLACE WAS AN ORIGINAL IDEA.I ALSO USED YOUTUBE IN THE PRODUCTION AND POST PRODUCTION PHASES. AS I HAD TO UPLOAD OUR PRODUCTION ONTO YOUTUBE,FACEBOOK & TWITTER TO MARKET THE SHORT FILM. ALSO I HAD TO ANNOTATE THE PRODUCTION FOR THE EVALUATION STAGE. BUT YOUTUBE WAS A MASSIVE HELP FOR MY PRODUCTION AS IT HELPED ME WITH THE ANCILLARY TASK. IT PROVIDED TUTORIALS, PROGRAMMES AND HELP WITH VARIOUS SHOTS WE USED IN ORDER TO MAKE IT FUNNIER BY VIEWING THEIR FACIAL EXPRESSIONS. YOUTUBE FACILITATED AND BUILT MY CONFIDENCE WITH THE USE OF PHOTOSHOP.

YOUTUBE ALSO HELPED US IN THE EVALUATION STAGE OF OUR COURSEWORK, AS WE HAVE TO ANNOTATE THE VIDEO TIME TO TIME IN ORDER TO EXPRESS WHAT WE THINK WAS TRYING TO BE SHOWED. WE HAD TO HAVE BUBBLES AND SUBTITLES IN EACH SCENE TO EXPLAIN THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS. IT SHOULD PAUSE AND HAVE A TIME LIMIT ENOUGH FOR THE VIEWER TO READ THE ANNOTATIONS AND CARRY ON WATCHING THE SHORT FILM. THIS IS A GREAT TOOL TO USE AS YOU CAN ANALYSE A FILM EASILY AND EFFECTIVELY FOR THE READER TO PIN-POINT AND RECOGNISE THE CINEMATOGRAPHY USED IN THE FILM.

THIS WAS AN IMPORTANT WEBSITE FOR US AS WE CAN UPLOAD AND PERFORM OUR WORK TO OUR AUDIENCE’S WHERE OUR BLOG PAGE IS THERE TO PUT ALL OUR PAPERWORK. THIS WAS USED CONSTANTLY BY THE GROUP AS THIS WOULD BE FOR US TO POST OUR WORK ONE BY ONE VIA USING OTHER ONLINE INTERACTIVE WEBSITES SUCH AS; SCRIBD, SLIDESHARE,PREZI, YOUTUBE AND CODES WHICH WE WILL ‘EMBED’ ONTO OUR BLOG. INSTEAD OF SENDING WORK TO ONE PERSON OVER AND OVER AGAIN, THE BLOG WAS MUCH EASIER TO USE AND HELPED US PRESENT OUR WORK IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER. THIS IS GREAT BECAUSE YOU ARE ABLE TO SAVE, UPLOAD YOUR WORK FOR PEOPLE TO SEE AND ALLOWS OUR WORK TO BE SEEN PROGRESSING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR OR TIME LIMIT. BLOGGER WORKS AND HELPS US TO EXPRESS OUR WORK FREELY AND TO SHARE WORK AND ARRANGE IT EXACTLY HOW THE PERSON LIKES. ESPECIALLY WITH THE AUDIENCE ‘S INTERACTIVE VIEW.

THE MOST EFFICIENT THING ABOUT OUR BLOG WAS THAT PEOPLE IN MY GROUP WE’RE ABLE TO ACCESS BLOGGER EVERYDAY, ANYTIME WHICH MAKES IT EASIER FOR US TO PORTRAY THE WORK NEEDED AND WE ARE ABLE TO LOG IN OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL AND UPLOAD OUR WORK EFFORTLESSLY.

ScribdSCRIBD WAS USUALLY USED TO EXPRESS THE WORK WE HAVE CREATED ON MICROSOFT WORD AND IS A WAY TO CONVERT THE DOCUMENT ONLINE ONTO A FILE WHICH CAN EASILY BE EMBDED ONTO BLOGGER. THIS MAKES IT LOOK MORE PRESENTABLE AND PROFESSIONAL FOR THE AUDIENCE WHICH IS CLEARLY SHOWN. SOME OF THE WORK I VIEWED WHILE I WAS DOING MY RESEARCH IN THE PRE-PRODUCTION PHASE WHICH I THOUGHT WAS MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL THAN ONLY VIEWING IT IF IT WAS ONLY DOWNLOADED. THIS ALSO WOULD CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR SOME OF THE AUDIENCE AND VIRUSES. HOWEVER, IN ORDER TO UPLOAD THEM QUICKLY, IT WAS MUCH EASIER.

THIS SOFTWARE WAS USED TO EDIT IMAGES TO A CERTAIN STANDARD AND ALSO FOR THE PROFESSIONALISM. TO BEGIN WITH IT WAS VERY HARD TO USE, GET THE HANG OF AND EVEN TO LEARN AS THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT. BUT IT MUST BE DONE IN A CERTAIN WAY AND A DEFINITE ORDER. IT IS DIFFICULT TO USE ESPECIALLY IF IT’S YOUR FIRST TIME, BUT NEED TO GAIN EXPERIENCE WITH IT. I HAD TO WATCH TUTORIALS AND PROGRAMME’S/DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO USE IT, I MADE MISTAKES WHICH HELPED ME BECAUSE I LEARNT FROM THEM. I USED THIS OFTEN FOR MY ANCILLARY TASK WHICH WAS TO CREATE A POSTER AND REVIEW FOR THE FILM. THIS TOOL HELPS YOU TO EXPAND YOUR IMAGINATION AS YOU ARE ABLE TO CROP PEOPLE OUT OF A CERTAIN PICTURE AND CAN MODIFY DIFFERENT SIZES, ANGLES AND EFFECTS TO CREATIVELY CREATE MEANINGS INTO THE PICTURE. THIS PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE WAS A MASSIVE HELP DURING THIS TASK AND TO CREATE A LOGO IT WAS USED AGAIN WHICH MADE IT UNIQUE AND MET OUR NEEDS AS WELL AS IT BEING LABELLED OUR WORK.

FINAL CUT PROTHIS WAS CONSTANTLY USED BY OUR EDITOR ANUKA BARUA, AS SHE NEEDED IT IN ORDER TO CREATE THE PRODUCTION BUT WE RESEARCHED ON HOW TO USE IT IN THE PRE-PRODUCTION PHASE. THIS PROGRAMME WAS USED TO CUT RAW FOOTAGE AND ADD SOUNDS NEEDED IN THE PRODUCTION WHICH HELPED THE STORY TO FLOW AND MAKE SENSE. ANUKA STARTED USING THIS WHEN WE FIRST FILMED AND TO CAPTURE ALL THE FOOTAGE. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO CUT THE PARTS NOT NEEDED WHICH COMES IN HANDY AS THE PROGRAMME IS DESIGNED FOR THIS. ANUKA USED THIS SOFTWARE WELL AS SHE ALREADY HAD EXPERIENCE FROM LAST YEARS EDITING, HOWEVER WAS MUCH HARDER TO GET IT RIGHT BECAUSE OF ITS LENGTH. EVEN THOUGH ANUKA IS EXPERIENCED, IT WAS CHALLENGING BECAUSE THE SOFTWARE HAD BEEN UPDATED AND WAS HARD TO GET USE TO THE CHANGES. OVERALL, FINAL CUT PRO ALLOWED US TO CREATE AND EDIT A SHORT FILM TO OUR NEEDS.

THIS ONLINE SOURCE ALLOWED US TO DOWNLOAD MUSIC/SOUND NEEDED FROM ANYWHERE IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE FITTED INTO OUR PRODUCTION CORRECTLY. THIS WAS USED IN THE PRODUCTION AND POST-PRODUCTION PHASE, AS IT WAS VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO USE FOR OUR SOUNDS. THIS CONVERTED FILES FROM MP4 TO MP3 WHICH WAS EFFECTIVE FOR US. YOU WOULD SIMPLY, COPY AND PASTE THE URL INTO THE WEBSITE AND CLICK ‘CONVERT’ WHICH WOULD THEN TRANSFER IT INTO A MP3 AUDIO FILE. THIS WOULD THEN BE TAKEN INTO FINAL CUT PRO FOR THE SOUND TO BE PLACED IN THE RIGHT ORDER AND RIGHT PLACES. WE FOCUSSED ON WHAT KIND OF MUSIC SHOULD BE USED AND IF IT WOULD APPEAL TO THE AUDIENCE, HOPEFULLY IN ORDER TO GET THEIR ATTENTION AND INTRIGUE THEM.

FACEBOOKTHIS WAS USED DURING THE PRE-PRODUCTION AND POST PRODUCTION STAGE AS THE PRODUCTION MUST BE MARKETED, WHICH IN THIS CASE IS SOCIAL NETWORKING. TO GET THE PRODUCTION OUT THERE BY MAKING A FACBOOK ACCOUNT. ALSO, THIS HELPED US AS THIS WOULD ALLOW THE AUDIENCE OR VIEWERS TO GET BACK TO US AND GIVE FEEDBACK ON THEIR THOUGHTS. WE CREATED THE FACEBOOK GROUP WITH OUR PRODUCTION COMPANY BUT THE USE OF FACEBOOK ALLOWS VIEWERS TO ‘LIKE’ THE PRODUCTION DEPENDING ON IF THEY LIKED IT OR NOT AND ALSO A ‘COMMENT’ BOX WHICH MEANS ANY REMARKS WOULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AND TELL US HOW IT COULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED. ANY NEWS ON THE FILM OR SOMETHING RELATED TO THE PRODUCTION COMPANY CAN BE WRITTEN WITH STATUS UPDATES.

TWITTERTWITTER WAS ANOTHER METHOD TO MARKET AND

PROMOTE OUR PRODUCTION WHICH AGAIN WAS THROUGH SOCIAL NETWORKING. THESE SITES ARE VISITED OFTEN BY THE PUBLIC ESPECIALLY AS IT’S AVAILABLE ON MOBILE PHONES AND SO IS THE PRODUCTION AS IT’S ON YOUTUBE. IF IT IS LIKED BY A LOT OF PEOPLE AND VIEWED THEN THEIR FRIENDS WOULD TELL THEIR FRIENDS ETC. THIS IS A MASSIVE LINK AND CAN CREATE MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE JUST LIKE VIRAL MARKETING. THIS WAS USED IN THE PRE AND POST PRODUCTION STAGE WHERE WE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE FOLLOWERS LIKE OURSELVES AND OTHERS WHEN THEY CAN POST THEIR VIEWS CLEARLY ON OUR TRIPLE B PRODUCTIONS PAGE. WE TWEETED THE PRODUCTION’S LINK WHICH IS LINKED TO FACEBOOK. THIS COULD SHOW HOW SUCCESSFUL THE FILM CAN BE AS WELL AS A FAILURE.

USBTHIS WAS VERY HELPFUL AS IT ALLOWED US TO TRANSFER DATA TO ONE ANOTHER EFFICIENTLY AND QUICKLY AND ALSO TAKE DOCUMENTS HOME. HOWEVER, THROUGHOUT THE COURSE YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW IF IT IS RELIABLE ENOUGH OR NOT BECAUSE AT ANY POINT ANYTHING COULD GO WRONG. THAT’S WHY IT’S BEST TO BACK UP WORK YOU DO IN VARIOUS PLACES. THIS WOULD ALSO ALLOW US TO ADD OUR FINAL TOUCHES IF WE WERE TO GIVE IN WORK ON THE DAY AND GOOD FOR EMERGENCY BACK UP TOO.

MACBOOK PROTHIS APPLE PRODCUT AIDED ME THROUGHOUT THE COURSE, AS IT ALLOWED ME TO CREATE PAPERWORK NEEDED, USING PHOTOSHOP, RESEARCHING IN THE PRE-PRODUCTION PHASE AND BROWSING THE INTERNET FOR EVERY STAGE. THIS HELPED ME A LOT DURING SCHOOL HOURS AS IT HELPED ME CREATE A STORYBOARD EFFECTIVELY. THE MACBOOK PRO IS USUALLY USED FOR PROFESSIONAL USE BUT WITH THE HD RETNA DISPLAY, ALLOWS YOU TO VIEW IMAGES AND VIDEOS TO A HIGH RESOLUTION.

PREZITHIS WEBSITE ALLOWS US TO CONVERT PRESENTATIONS FROM POWERPOINT TO A BETTER PRESENTATION AND MORE PRESENTABLE AS WE ARE ABLE TO USE DIFFERENT DESIGNS, COLOURS, FONTS AND EFFECTS. THIS WAS USED IN THE PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE WHICH HELPED ME PRESENT MY WORK TO A HIGH STANDARD WITH SOME IMAGINATION. I DIDN’T REALLY KNOW HOW TO USE PREZI BUT ONCE I DID IT ONCE AND USED IT MORE OFTEN THE MORE IT HELPED ME GET USE TO IT. I DISCOVERED VARIOUS DESIGNS WHICH WERE APPEALING AND DISCOVERED WAYS IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LOOK BETTER.

THIS WAS MADE COLOURFUL, AND IDEAS WERE IN A INTERACTIVE MINDMAP WHICH THEN WAS EMBEDED ONTO THE BLOG.

THE PRESENTATION WOULD THEN BE EMBEDED ONTO THE BLOG WHICH MADE IT EASY TO TRANSFER DOCUMENTS AND PROFICIENT FOR US. THIS WAS USED IN THE PRE-PRODUCTION STAGE AND ALSO EVALUATION AS WORK WOULD BE PORTRAYED EFFORTLESSLY AS YOU CAN GO FROM SLIDE TO SLIDE WITH A CLICK OF A BUTTON.

THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE SITE’S HAVE DEVELOPED AND SHOWS ME HOW TECHNOLOGY IS BEING DEVELOPED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS. HOWEVER, IT HAS HELPED ME IMPROVE MY SKILLS WITH SOME PARTS IN SUCH A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME BUT ALSO WITHOUT THEM THE PRE-PRODUCTION, PRODUCTION AND POST PRODUCTION STAGE’S WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO USE AND EXTENDED THE TIME ON IT. EVEN THOUGH I CAME ACROSS SOME TECHNOLOGY WHICH I WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH WHERE I FOUND IT DIFFICULT BUT PULLED THROUGH IN THE END WITH A GOOD STANDARD. HOWEVER, I’M SURE I CAN STILL IMPROVE ON MY SKILLS THROUGH WEB 2.0.
